The
two viral videos launched on
Diddy.com promptly at 7:00 PM ET.
Video 1 is called "What Would You Do For Diddy?" It opens with a lady named Kim from Diddy.com singing "What Would You Do For Diddy?" She says that we are going to see what are the craziest things they would do for Diddy.
It cuts to her waking up some guy in a bed, telling him that she wants him to put on a red dress. Seems kind of canned. The guy says Diddy's not here to see it, but Kim says she'll send Diddy a picture. Then Kim says she'll need to wax his legs. She starts to do so and after pulling off the first sheet of wax, the guy screams.
Next, we have a man dancing on a sidewalk with a cane. Following this is Kim with a woman in a bathroom. The woman appears to be wearing a towel. At any rate, Kim wants her to put Ciroc up her nose. Which, she does.
After this is a man sitting on a chair on the sidewalk. Kim writes "No B****a**ness" on his forehead and then walks him down the side walk saying "No B****a**ness!" Then we have another guy doing a dance. The last one is a girl pulling out her eyelashes. The video ends with Kim saying that all she wants to know is what you would do for Diddy.
The second video is called "The Applesauce Bandit". It begins with someone asking Andre Harrell what one word he would use to describe Diddy. He says "driven." We then see a sort of Diddy impersonator on the phone with some lady saying that he is sick of cheesecake and has a craving for some apple sauce. But, he says, there is a bandit (cue footage of man in purple cape) out there "displaying a high level of b****a**ness". He needs her to find the bandit and bring him back his apple sauce.
Next, the lady is on the streets, pledging to find the bandit. We see both of them running down the street and into a grocery store where the bandit takes some apple sauce off the shelves. The woman falls and we hear some sort of motivational speech from someone about staying in the race.
She catches up to the bandit, taking his bag of apple sauce and beating him with it. Then she dances, repeatedly saying apple sauce. While dancing, she drops the bag, breaking the apple sauce. She's ad now and we see the banditon a ledge with the wind blowing his cape, smiling. Finally, some kinds start to yell "applesauce is the new ...", but the video stops short before they can finish what they are saying.
After I watched these videos, I'm left with kind of a strange look on my face. Here I was, hoping for the already shot "Diddy Rock" video to be one of these. They are both goofy and, to be honest, I wasn't particularly entertained by either of them. The first one just strikes me as strange and potentially destructive... why make people torture themselves for Diddy for no reason? I can see how some would consider it in poor taste.
If I have to vote, I'll vote for the second one because at least I was a little entertained by it and it was cute, in parts. It's slapstick and corny and I don't know what they are going for (besides making people to talk, hence "viral" videos), but I don't know that I consider it a great attempt. And what's with the Andre Harrell cameo at the start? And why have a Diddy imitator instead of Diddy himself? Diddy did not appear in either of the two viral videos that were deemed as his. I don't know.
At the time of voting, 7:16 PM ET, there was 87 votes. 77% for "What Would You Do For Diddy?" and 23% for "The Applesauce Bandit".
BallerStatus.com has an interview with producer Shorty B where he talks a little bit about working with Biggie.
And multi-platinum he has been. Producing on 11 albums that went gold or platinum in the 90s -- including Short's Shorty The Pimp, Cocktails, Get In Where You Fit In, and Spice 1's Amerikkka's Nightmare, as well as the "Juice" and "Menace II Society" soundtracks. Shorty B was one of the few to work with both Death Row Records and Bad Boy Records during the famous East Coast vs. West Coast wars. "We had a studio out here in Atlanta, and Biggie came through one day. We all sit down and smoked a little weed together and sh**. After a little while, Short say he going to the studio because he wanted me to let Biggie hear some beats. We went in the studio and I let Biggie hear some beats. Then Lil Kim showed up at the studio. So I played this beat and she absolutely fell in love with it. It ended up on the 'Booty Call' Soundtrack as 'Call Me'.
Everytime I hear this song it reminds me of Summer, so because I'm so excited for the upcoming season, I thought I would share this Summer jam with you all.
Yung Joc has either made or appeared on how many #1 singles (Hot 100) in his career thus far?
B5 has been nominated in the "Music Group or Duo" category in the
Popstar! Magazine Poptastic Awards! You can
vote online.
On the
B5 forums, the group's manager, Jim McMahan, announced that they are now offering personalized video messages (along with autographed items) for a fee, ranging from $50 (video message from one member of B5 plus an autographed picture from that member, personalized) to $200 (video message from all members of B5 and both members of Myxx, another act managed by McMahan's JAMM Entertainment, a phone call from both members of Myxx and some members of B5 and a personal item from a B5 member, autographed by that member).
Personally, I think this is a cool idea because it offers something I can see people wanting and offers it at an affordable price. B5 is in an interesting position in that they do have a number of fans, but not the fanbase of a major act. So, they can do something like this at an affordable rate and not have it become overwhelming. It allows them to generate extra revenue in a unique way while giving fans a unique gift experience.
With a live band, the girls of Danity Kane performed "Damaged" last night on the Jimmy Kimmel Live show. The performance was great and the ladies were beautiful as usual. While the credits rolled, they performed a snippet of "Poetry" also from the new album "Welcome to the Dollhouse". Check out the performance below.
So I ask, what do you think will be the next single? My prediction is "Ecstasy", let me know what you think.
The
Billboard charts are in and Elephant Man's "Let's Get Physical" has debuted at #1 on the Top Raggae Albums Chart. He did not chart on The Billboard 200, unfortunately, but did chart at #38 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums. This is not a release that's going to do what would traditionally be considered as "big numbers"; it has to be considered in relation to the genre that it is in.
We're going to try something new here at Bad Boy Blog with our weekly Billboard chat report. Instead of just reporting Bad Boy positions on The Billboard 200 and Hot 100, we're also going to be reporting their spots on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums, Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles, Pop 100, Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Hot Rap Tracks charts. We may also temporarily report on other charts that are presently relevant to Bad Boy, such as Top Reggae Albums this week, due to the Elephant Man release. Here we go:
The Billboard 200
10. "Welcome to the Dollhouse" by Danity Kane (down from 7).
18. "Day26" by Day26 (down from 4).
Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums
4. "Day26" by Day26 (down from 3).
5. "Welcome to the Dollhouse" (down from 4).
38. "Let's Get Physical" by Elephant Man (debut).
69. "In and Out of Love" by Cheri Dennis (down from 60).
76. "Greatest Hits" by The Notorious B.I.G. (up from 85).
Top Reggae Albums
1. "Let's Get Physical" by Elephant Man (debut).
The Billboard Hot 100
20. "Damaged" by Danity Kane (a new high, up from 21).
98. "Got Me Going" by Day26 (down from 87).
Pop 100
16. "Damaged" by Danity Kane (a new high, up from 17).
Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs
31. "Got Me Going" by Day26 (a new high, up from 32).
85. "Juice Box" by Gorilla Zoe featuring Yung Joc (a new high, up from 90).
Danity Kane is currently featured on
Wal-Mart's Soundcheck. In it, they perform "Poetry", "Showstopper", "One Shot" and "Damaged". A short interview session follows.

MTV reports that Donnie Klang's debut album will be titled "Come into My World".
Bad Boy is now servicing Cheri Dennis' "Pretend", indicating that it could be her next single. The track is now in our audio player.
Bleu Magazine has an interview with Cheri Dennis.
How is it working with Diddy? On "Making The Band", let's just say he doesn't make himself out to be the easiest guy to work with. I'm sure he never made you walk to Brooklyn to get cheesecake, but is he really the hard-nosed guy we see on MTV or is he a big softie once you get to know him?
He’s not the easiest person to work with, but at the end of the day he’s very focused and very driven. That can be a little intense at times and that can be misconstrued into making him look like not the nicest person. But when there’s a job to do and you’re in control of a million different things, being nice is not always the objective, getting the job done is the objective. He is a very intense guy and for television it’s amped up a lot. It’s television and they’re seeking ratings and a lot of those situations could seem a little crazy because you have to try to fit them into that hour or that thirty minutes, or however long Making The Band is. At the end of the day there’s a job to be done, somebody’s gotta be the overseer and he is it.
The walking for cheesecake was just a metaphor. It’s like what will you sacrifice in order to attain this dream that you want? It don’t come easy for everybody and here it is just being presented to you. Here you have the opportunity of a lifetime that people have scraped and struggled for for years and now this opportunity has just fallen into your lap. What are you willing to sacrifice for it? I never walked for cheesecake but had I been asked to do it. I probably would have done it too because that’s how bad I want it. That’s how bad I wanna be a superstar and that’s how bad I want my music out there. So in that respect I don’t think he did it to be mean. Walking a few miles to go grab cheesecake for somebody who’s about to give you the opportunity of a lifetime is a small price to pay for all the blessings that come with this job.

The
Telegraph has a great interview with Diddy, mainly focusing on his acting.
Faith Evans, former Bad Boy singer and wife to The Notorious B.I.G., has a memoir due out in August called
"Keep The Faith". From the
Amazon.com product page:
KEEP THE FAITH is Faith Evan's first person account of life at ground zero of hip-hop's greatest generation. She'll share the truth about the love affair that changed her life, and the innuendo that rocked the hip-hop world to its core. From her passionate and tragically short-lived life with Biggie, Faith will finally lay the true story on the line. We'll get to see the good, the bad and the ugly side of P. Diddy; nobody knew either quite as well as Faith.
Sigh. I hope she does this right.
Via
SixShot.
The
Play blog has an interview with Ray J where he talks about seeing Faith Evans sitting in 2Pac's lap weeks before "Hit 'Em Up" was released and how he was with Biggie two days before he died. He claims that Biggie was going to be on the remix to Ray J's "Everything You Want". Lil' Cease eventually was featured on the Bad Boy Remix to the track. I'm not sure if I'd consider Ray J a credible source or not.

Check out the Diddy video at the
MTV2 Sucker Free site. Once there, click "Videos" and it's at the top. It features clips from "Dolly My Baby (Bad Boy Remix)" and "Last Night" with a number of people talking about Diddy.
Diddy's announcement on today's TRL was that the Making the Band tour dates will be released on
Bad Boy Online on Thursday - tickets will go on sale at the same time.
Diddy also announced that the name that will be on Diddy's Hollywood Star is "Sean "Diddy" Combs".
On TRL just now, Donnie said that the video for "Take You There" is being done in 2-3 weeks.
Ryan Leslie has added a new track to
his MySpace. It's called "Addiction" and it features Cassie.
Actor Derek Luke will be playing Diddy in the upcoming Biggie biopic. The
National Ledger asked Luke about his relationship with Combs.
"He's around and available all the time." ... "But, at the same time, he's busy. And I kind of stay in my own world to kind of protect myself." Luke says he and Diddy have been close associates for awhile. "We'd see each other and always be friendly. Every time we'd talk it would be about fashion or acting or what kind of music (we) listen to."
Diddy, Danity Kane, Donnie and Day26 will all be hitting up MTV's TRL this afternoon. Hopefully, we will be getting some much anticpated information on the up-coming tour. Hopefully, fingers crossed!
The Voice Online has an interview with Elephant Man.
So when a rumour emerged last year that Ele had got into fisticuffs with his new Bad Boy boss, people could only imagine what kind of drama had ensued between the pair. But as it turned out, the rumour was completely false.
“That was nothing more than people going on the Internet to spread lies and rumours,” Ele said. “Me and Puffy are good. Sometimes people have nothing better to do than to player-hate. But I just wanna let the fans know that nothing like that happened.”
“How am I gonna sign to a major company like Bad Boy and go and beat up Puffy? Reggae music doesn’t need any more bad press. As artists, we need to do our best to keep the music positive and that’s what I’m trying to do. Reggae gets such a fight as it is, and I’m not gonna be the one to bring it down, by being so dunce and fool that I would go and screw up a great opportunity.”
Probably one of my favorite Bad Boy videos of all-time. I love the dramatic effect of the video and you can feel the energy while you're watching it. Check it out.
Production cost approximately $2.7 million. "Victory" ranks as the 4th most expenisve music video in history. Michael and Janet Jackson's "Scream" ranks #1 with approximately $7 million.

feature on powerful (and beautiful) business women, Times Online spoke with Dia Simms, Diddy's top assistant.
I am very proud to announce that my new book,
"Managing Online Forums: Everything You Need to Know to Create and Run Successful Community Discussion Boards", is now available and can be
purchased online at
Amazon.com,
Barnes & Noble.com and other retailers. If you are in the United States, it is being stocked nationally at Barnes & Noble locations, as well. You can check stock status at the closest store to you

"Managing Online Forums" is the result of my years of experience running online communities and forums. The book is definitely appropriately titled: it is truly a forums management book, but with principles that can apply to other types of online communities, like blogs, as well. From creating the infrastructure of the community and setting and enforcing policies to dealing with troublemakers and managing staff. This isn't a programming book or a software book, this is all about managing the actual forums.
Here is some of the
advance praise that the book has received:
"O'Keefe provides an impressively insightful, comprehensive, and cogent blueprint for building a loyal and responsive community online."
-
Ryan Leslie, Founder,
NextSelection Lifestyle Group, recording artist, producer, and online video pioneer

Despite what
we were told and even
the current header image on Diddy's MySpace, there was no "If I Were King" encore. If you were like me and waited to watch the show with the half hour intern special, well... tough luck. Not quite! You can

On Cassie's MySpace, she is offering a first listen of the new single "Official Girl" from her untitled sophomore album. "Official Girl" offers a fresh new sound for Cassie but doesn't challenge her vocal ability. "It's been such a crazy learning experience recording my sophomore album and I owe so much of this opportunity to all of you," says Cassie on
her MySpace.
To hear "Official Girl" check out
Cassie's MySpace.
Watch below for some good video from Janelle Monae's Bad Boy introduction in New York
last week. It features Diddy, Kevin Liles, Missy Elliott, Andre Harrell and others.
Janelle Monae has an
entry on her MySpace blog discussing the partnership with Bad Boy. In it, she also implores fans to join
"The Chase", though she provides little as far as further details. It's an effort to unite her fans, certainly. I've asked a rep for a preview or sneak peak to get a better idea.
According to Billboard.com, Cassie will be planning on dropping her sophomore album in September. After selling about 321,000 copies of her self-titled debut in 2006, Diddy claims the new album "is going to really, really catch people off guard." She has a new single out produced by Danja (Danity Kane, Britney Spears) called "Official Girl" that should receive radio play soon.
Despite the success of the hit single "Me & U" selling more than 1 million digital downloads, Cassie received some less than fantastic reviews after poor television and radio performances. "I don't think she was ready," Diddy says. "I think that we threw her into the spotlight without the artist development--that goes on with a lot of new artists. We pulled out, we took our time, we developed her for like, a year-and-a-half. People are just going to see her there and be like, 'Wow she's really cocooned into a butterfly."
I hope that Cassie can add to the success that Bad Boy has had this year, thus far.

Janelle Monae was
featured in an MTV News segment with a super quick interview with her and Diddy. You can watch the video
in the article.
The article reveals that the "Metropolis" EP will, in fact, be a re-release of "Metropolis Suite I of IV: The Chase" and that she is due to shoot a video for "Many Moons" soon.
"I think it's something that I needed to do to show my level of creativity for my legacy as an executive producer and as a label owner," [Diddy] said of bringing her onboard. "I was looking for things that were different and innovative. Because if you're a leader in this industry you want to be helping to push it forward, and she's an artist that would help to push it forward. ... It's so good that it's not a risk. It's not about the sales, it's not about one particular thing."
"Wow," Monáe exclaimed, seated next to Diddy.
Watch below for a video from behind the scenes at the shooting of Danity Kane's "Damaged" video.
Elephant Man will be hosting an album release party tonight in Bladensburg, Maryland at the
Crossroads Entertainment Complex. Doors open at 10:00 PM.

Through a
press release, Diddy spoke about the
"If I Were King" documentary.
"I am honored with the opportunity to present this to the world and to highlight what I have put into this show and this business of Sean John," he said. "It is extremely important to me to allow people in to see all the blood, sweat and tears that went into the Sean John show and to relay the important message of honor and ambition and going forward with a dream and there is no one better to portray this message than MTV."
"I am so excited that this documentary is airing at such a crucial moment for the Sean John brand as this year marks our 10th anniversary. What better way to emblazon the current success of the brand and to recognize our unbelievable past."
The Sean John FashionWeek 2008 documentary,
"If I Were King" is set to air on MTV on Wednesday night at 10:00 PM ET. It will also be shown on Saturday at 2:00 PM ET and will be followed by a program called "Sean John: Internship By Design".

The new
Danity Kane site has launched. Like a majority of things that Bad Boy has attempted online, it's a half done disappointment, unfortunately. Most pages don't seem to work, most notably the audio player. The DKTV section only features videos from their last album, no "Damaged" (how is that possible?) The "Community" appears to be a basic MySpace clone powered by a third party provider with only a very simple level of customization. When is Bad Boy going to learn that they need to take the time to cultivate community and then take it with them, regardless of the platform? They need control of their content and their community's content.
While the site is pretty, the content isn't there. This site should not have launched as it has.

From the
press release:
The Atlantic Records Group scores a major chart triumph this week, with four albums ranking in the top ten on the SoundScan/Billboard 200, a feat last accomplished by the company in 1994. In addition, this marks the first time in over 25 years that Atlantic has had three out of the top five albums in the country.
As a result of these impressive rankings, the Atlantic Records Group achieves its biggest single-week market share in the 17-year history of the SoundScan sales tracking system -- garnering a phenomenal, industry-leading 16.21% in current market share, nearly double that of the #2-ranked company.
The spectacular #1 debut of the self-titled first album from Day26 marks the second week in a row that Bad Boy Records has taken the top spot -- following last week's history-making #1 debut by the sophomore album from Danity Kane, "WELCOME TO THE DOLLHOUSE," which ranks at #4 this week. According to Billboard, "DAY26" marks the 61st #1 album on the Billboard 200 for the Atlantic family -- dating back to Cream's "WHEELS OF FIRE" exactly 40 years ago.
Panic At The Disco scores a fantastic #2 debut with their eagerly awaited second Decaydance/Fueled By Ramen album, "PRETTY. ODD." Rounding out the foursome at #9 is Flo Rida's Poe Boy/Atlantic debut, "MAIL ON SUNDAY." In addition, following its rush-release last week due to online leaks, Gnarls Barkley's acclaimed second Downtown/Atlantic album, "THE ODD COUPLE," jumps into the #12 spot.
Atlantic's upcoming release schedule will feature eagerly anticipated new albums from Death Cab For Cutie, Missy Elliott, Shinedown, Rush, Plies, Estelle, and others, all due out before the end of the summer.
"This is an historic moment in the life of Atlantic Records," said Atlantic Chairman/CEO Craig Kallman. "To have four out of the top ten records in the country, not to mention three out of the top five, is a hugely satisfying achievement. What makes it even more significant is the musical diversity of the artists -- from the R&B of Day26 to the rock of Panic to the pop of Danity Kane to the hip-hop of Flo Rida to the category-busting of Gnarls Barkley. This is a real testament to the fantastic team we have in place, who have the creativity and passion to develop artists across genres. I want to congratulate the entire Atlantic family for a truly brilliant job and our artists for delivering the great music that makes it all possible."
"We share this fantastic accomplishment with our terrific label partners," said Atlantic President Julie Greenwald. "I want to congratulate Diddy, Harve Pierre and the Bad Boy staff; John Janick, Pete Wentz, and everyone at Fueled By Ramen and Decaydance; Flo Rida's Poe Boy camp; and Josh Deutsch and our friends at Downtown. I thank them for working hand-in-hand with everyone at Atlantic to set up these records so magnificently."
Donnie Klang will be appearing today at Dimples Records in Sacramento, CA. It's at 2433 Arden Way. If you have any questions, you can call the store at (916) 925-2600. Later tonight, he'll be at
The X in San Francisco.
Watch below for Diddy's appearance on "The Big Idea", a show on CNBC.
As promised here is the video of the week, an oldie but goodie, Total's "Kissing You".
Which member Total is the wife of movie star Omar Epps?
CNBC has Billboard's interview with Diddy, talking about Making the Band, Danity Kane, Day26, Janelle Monae, Cassie and more. Perhaps the most interesting part:
WHAT ABOUT YOUR OWN MUSIC?
I'm just going into creative mode. I want to do something that's totally different. It's one of the first times in my life that I can go in without a plan and just create sounds and create melodies and see what comes of it . . . I feel like I've totally proven myself, and now as an artist, I can take that pressure off and have some fun. I'm about to go in the studio in two weeks.
Is he hinting at a new album? I've asked a representative for clarification.
Thanks to Brad for the tip.
Watch below for a promo video for "If I Were King", the Sean John FashionWeek 2008 documentary. Contrary to what
had been reported, it appears that it will be premiering on April 9 at 10:00 PM ET on MTV with an encore showing on April 12 at 2:00 PM ET. On April 9, it's
preceded by an episode of "True Life" called "I'm Going to FashionWeek". This seems like an unlikely coincidence, so I am sure they are probably related.
Check out and download this track on LOS' MySpace. I mentioned this track as being available the
other day, but what was labeled "G5 Is Da Bizzness Intro" was actually "Hurt Freestyle", which is also in his player. Now, this has been fixed.
HipHopDX and
Billboard have reports from Janelle Monae's performance at the Blender Theatre last night.
“I’ve been blessed with artists like Jodeci, Notorious B.I.G. and Mary J. Blige in the past, but this artist right here—you’ve just got to see it to believe it. I don’t know if you ever felt the Holy Ghost, but that’s the only feeling you’re to feel tonight,” Diddy said to a capacity crowd.
Monae -- decked out in her staple black slacks, white dress jacket with black lapel, oversized black bow tie and black and white wingtip shoes -- performed a five-song set that included the guitar-laden "Smile," "Letting Go" and "Violet Stars/Happy Hunting," which finds Monae singing, "I'm an alien from outer space / I'm a cyber girl without a face," over thumping drums.
They both mention that her September album title will be "Metropolis".
Diddy
spoke with MTV about the accusations
made (and then retracted) by Chuck Phillips of the L.A. Times. Mainly that he and Biggie knew 2Pac would be assaulted in 1994 at Quad Studios in New York.
"Just knowing how people in this day and age, what they read online and what they see in the papers, they just take it as fact. It's like, come on, I been working so hard to rise above all of this stuff, and to see it now trying to pull me back down.
"[But] I stayed focused. I was still. My grandmother told me, 'Be still.' No matter what it feels like, be still. And I was still and then the truth came out the way it was to come out. I didn't jump up and down about it. I let them give the apology and let people go back to the things they need to be focusing on about me, which is the #1 albums I'm dropping with Danity Kane and Day26, #1 fragrances, Janelle Monae, making this black history. And that's what it's about. But it's important to really deal with things however they come at you. And I've always done that my whole life and just always told the truth."
Diddy also said that he's not calling for Phillips to be fired and that he is not yet sure what he will do legally.
Check out an exclusive sneak peek of Usher's new video, "Love in This Club", where Diddy makes a cameo. The entire video will premiere on Monday, April 7th.
Black Voices has a pictorial focusing on the style of Cheri Dennis.
Donnie Klang will be appearing tonight, in Hollywood, CA, at two different locations. He'll be at Avalon on 1735 Vine Street and at Montmartre Lounge on 6757 Hollywood Boulevard. The event at Avalon is open to anyone (doors open at 10:00 PM), but the one at Montmartre Lounge is invite only.
Diddy is set to be the "Honorary Chairman" at Art For Life Miami Beach, hosted by the
Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation. The tickets are $1,000 for the whole evening or $350 for just the after party. Check out the flier below.

From the
press release:
FLO RIDA is LOW no more. The Hip Hop superstar comes to Toronto on FRIDAY, MAY 9, 2008 for an exclusive one-night engagement at the Rogers Centre CONCERT HALL. It will be a night to remember with performance from the sensational DANITY KANE, DAY 26 and DONNIE from P.
Diddy's "Making the Band" on MTV.
Tickets can be purchased at
Ticketmaster Canada.
Regular BBB reader Bryant alerted me to a commercial he saw for some sort of show featuring Diddy and Sean John, called "If I Were King". According to
Safran Digital Group, it's a "documentary about the making of the 2008 Sean John fashion show". I would guess, the one at Fashion Week, though that isn't stated.
The Art Institute of New York worked with MTV to cast interns for the show, which they say was set to air on March 8. I don't know why this is the first I'm hearing of it, but apparently, it will be
on MTV on April 12 at 7:00 PM ET.
On the April 12 edition of The Billboard Hot 100 chart, Danity Kane's "Damaged" is up to 21, a new high, from 27. Meanwhile, Day 26's "Got Me Going" debuts at 79. "Got Me Going" becomes Bad Boy's 82nd Hot 100 charting track.
Update: According to B5's management, it's unclear when the video will air. Stay posted.
B5 will be
featured on ABC's daytime soap, "All My Children" on April 25. For those that don't know, Erica Kane is a
long running, popular character on the show. On the show, she is apparently locked up in one way or another with people holding a rally for her freedom. B5 will appear at this fictional rally and perform their song.
The article also notes that B5 has shot a video for the song, that features Erica Kane in handcuffs. But, it's unclear when this will be appearing - perhaps it will be a part of the show.
"Day26" has given Bad Boy two number one albums in as many weeks, following the success of "Welcome to the Dollhouse", for the first in the history of the label. The guys moved over 190,000 units. Not only that, but their debut represents the biggest selling debut for a male R&B group in the SoundScan era, according to Bad Boy.
Their second single will be "Since You've Been Gone" and they will be featured on BET's Spring Bling, debuting on April 10. The full press release contains various Bad Boy related factoids, so I am going to include it below.

"Hurt Freestyle"
"The Future" featuring Mo Banks

Mase is not interested in joining Suge Knight's new label venture, at least not that we know of, as
we had reported. In honor of April Fools Day, we thought that we'd have a little fun and come up with a crazy story with just enough basis in reality for it to be believable.
The funny thing is, I didn't even know that Knight was working on a new label when I came up with the idea. Days later,
Nikita sent me a link to a trailer for a reality show based upon the concept and I could only think, "the April Fools Day gods have smiled down upon us."
So, though it makes for a good story, there is absolutely no truth behind the
report of Mase joining Black Ball Records. I appreciate, in advance, everyone for being a good sport.
Thank you for reading and for visiting Bad Boy Bog.
Just a quick note to
update the story from a few hours ago: JC is signed to Block, not Bad Boy, according to a source at the label.
Back in November, we reported on an AP report that
stated:
A former associate of Sean "Diddy" Combs filed a motion Wednesday to prohibit the hip-hop mogul from circulating FBI interrogation records in which an informant appears to link the associate to a shooting of the late rapper Tupac Shakur.
James Sabatino, once a consultant for Combs' Bad Boy Entertainment Inc., claims his former colleague is distributing the FBI reports as part of a smear campaign. Sabatino, 31, is imprisoned in Pennsylvania on fraud charges and sued Combs last month, claiming he is owed $19 million for music by the late Notorious B.I.G., another former client.
Of course, more recently, it has come out that
Sabatino forged FBI records used by the
L.A. Times. It turns out that the AP cited these forged documents in their story in November. From
Editor & Publisher:
The AP then notes that the documents were revealed as false last week after the Times' March 17 story about Shakur's shooting cited the documents. When the Web site, thesmokinggun.com, questioned the documents on Wednesday, the Times conducted an internal investigation and, later that day, admitted that it could not verify the documents as real.
"It reminded everybody that we had mentioned them ourselves," AP senior managing editor Mike Silverman said about the Times use of the documents. "There are some lessons leaned here that our Miami staff is taking to heart. Anyone can file something with a lawsuit, but that doesn't make it true."
Silverman stressed that the AP's reference to the documents was related to their use in a lawsuit. But he said that does not excuse the assumption that they were real. "There are some things, if we had to do over, we would do," he said about potential further investigation of Sabatino.
Update: JC is
signed to Block, not Bad Boy.
AllHipHop.com reports that the upcoming album from singer JC will feature production from Diddy, along with Bryan-Michael Cox and others. JC is signed to Block Entertainment and it sounds like he may be a Bad Boy artist, as well.
This story has been floating around for a while, but it was never something that could be confirmed. I'm trying to confirm it again now. Thanks Bryant for the tip.
