Bad Boy Blog
Thank you for visiting Bad Boy Blog.

There's no way for me to say this without it being a surprise, but unfortunately, the time has come for me to step away from the site. I'm still a massive fan of Mr. Combs and a big fan of Bad Boy Records, but I have decided that I want to focus my time and efforts on other projects.

I launched Bad Boy Blog on March 14, 2006 - coming up on 7 and a half years ago - with specific goals. I wanted to create an outlet for fans to follow Bad Boy related news, good and bad, from a fan's perspective.

We have been different from many other online publications in the responsibility that I take for this platform and how seriously I take it. This wasn't a gossip site, but a publication dedicated to getting accurate information to Bad Boy fans. We also took a hard line against piracy, only sharing music provided by legitimate parties. There is no doubt that this forced us to grow at a slower pace, especially in a world where plenty of outlets post MP3s, get the traffic, cash the checks and ask questions later.

Bad Boy Records has historically been pretty bad about informing the general public about who is and isn't on the label. There has typically been two rosters: the roster Bad Boy is currently promoting and the other artists they've signed who they are not currently promoting.

As such, we have often maintained coverage of certain artists after they left the label because Bad Boy didn't reveal that they had left the label, but it eventually was said by someone credible or simply became clear.

Bad Boy Blog will now cease coverage of Big Gee, Boyz N Da Hood, Dirty Money (except as it applies directly to Diddy), Jordan McCoy, Marina Chello, Mario Winans and Shannon. With the exception of Dirty Money, all of these artists were signed to Bad Boy/Atlantic and when Diddy made the move to Interscope, he said that a Bad Boy/Atlantic label would still exist with the artists that he had signed previously. And it does.

But, over time, it has become clear that Janelle Monáe may be the only active artist who is still signed to it. I've heard rumblings here and there but nothing anyone would put on the record, unfortunately. That said, the inactivity, the exclusion of these artists from the "official" roster and words from the artists themselves have indicated to me that it is appropriate to cease coverage of them at this time (and probably was appropriate some time ago).

If anything should happen regarding these artists and Bad Boy (or the work they created while with Bad Boy), I'll be sure to mention it.

Thank you for reading Bad Boy Blog.

Earlier today, April 1, we reported that French Montana has released a sequel to "Ocho Cinco," titled "Ocho Sies." In Spanish, ocho cinco means 8-5. Seis means 6. So, ocho sies is 8-6 or one more than ocho cinco.

If you played the audio clip on that story, you'll notice a hip-hop sounding beat - in this case, A Tribe Called Quest. But if you continue to listen, in comes Rick Astley singing "Never Gonna Give You Up," a song that best known these days for rickrolling.

At that point, listeners likely realized that, with today being April 1, it was an April Fools' Day joke. But, just in case, April Fools! I hope that you had a fun day.

It was on this day 7 years ago that I launched Bad Boy Blog. I wanted to create a publication that fans could trust, that would cover both the good and bad of Bad Boy.

In honor of this milestone, I would like to take a moment to thank everyone who has supported this outlet. Everyone who subscribes via RSS, Twitter, Facebook or elsewhere. Anyone who has ever provided me with a kind word. It means a lot to me. Thank you for your support and kindness.

Sincerely,

Patrick

Thank you for visiting Bad Boy Blog. This is a special message for those who subscribe to our website through our RSS feed.

Until now, we've used a service called FeedBurner to serve our RSS feed. Unfortunately, there have been some ominous signs that the product is not receiving adequate attention, leading to questions about its reliability.

I wanted to address this before it is a real issue and, as such, have moved our RSS feed to another provider. To that end, I would like to ask you to please delete your old subscription and subscribe to our new feed URL, which is at http://feeds.badboyblog.com/badboyblog.

The good news is that, with this change, we will have increased control over our RSS feed, ensuring that we will not need to ask you to resubscribe again in the future due to issues with a provider like this.

Thank you for your understanding and for reading Bad Boy Blog.

I started Bad Boy Blog because, as a fan of Bad Boy Records, I wanted a source of news and information that took a responsible approach to reporting. That's what Bad Boy Blog is. We're not a gossip site and we don't share illegal downloads. I take this very seriously.

That is except for one day of the year - April 1. April Fools' Day. It has become a tradition where we have a little fun here. In 2008, we reported that Mase wanted to sign to Suge Knight's new record label. In 2009, Jordan McCoy was joining Boyz N Da Hood and we premiered the supposed first single for Diddy's upcoming album "Last Train to Paris." In 2010, a series of "Hello Good Morning" remixes was said to be coming out for different times of the day. And last year, we reported that the label would change its name to Good Boy Records.

This year, we continued the tradition by reporting that Coke Boys leader French Montana had signed an endorsement deal with Coca-Cola and Mr. Lace Up, Machine Gun Kelly would give up shoe laces.
