Julia Terruso of The Star-Ledger reports that the "Friday Before Christmas Party," held on December 23 and hosted by HOT 97 and DJ Wallah with special guest French Montana, ended in violence before Montana could even take the stage.
Jayson Perry, 21, died after he has stabbed. Five more people were stabbed, while one was shot, with only a superficial wound. None of the additional victims are facing life threatening injuries.
According to Shaun Mehtani, co-owner of the venue where the party was hosted, the trouble began when Montana's entourage, numbering around 40, entered and wanted access to the VIP area.
"Everyone was enjoying themselves," he said. "The trouble began when his entourage arrived. They started yelling at the people in VIP. They were taking their drinks."
This led to a fight which forced the venue's security team to attempt to bring the party to an end and flush everyone out of the building. Police are investigating the incident.
