The Dallas Morning News has an interview with Carl Thomas.
Although many fans and insiders have speculated that the tepid promotion of Let's Talk About It prompted the move, Mr. Thomas characterizes the parting of ways as a business move, not one fueled by animosity or conflict with its founder, Sean "Diddy" Combs. ...
"Bad Boy has been good to me, but when you have a company doing everything for you, you're not necessarily the responsible artist that you could be.
"We have never had any real problems," Mr. Thomas says of his relationship with Mr. Combs, "and as a matter of fact, I made sure that he was one of the very first people to have a copy of my new album. He said that this is what my fans have been waiting for, and he likes it a lot."
Here are this week's SoundScan numbers (along with Billboard 200 position) for Bad Boy titles:
NR. "Greatest Hits" by The Notorious B.I.G., 2,900 (244,000 overall).
NR. "Press Play" by Diddy, 2,900 (662,800).
NR. "Ridin High" by 8 Ball & MJG, 1,800 (140,900).
NR. "New Joc City" by Yung Joc, 1,100 (933,300).
NR. "Danity Kane" by Danity Kane, 600 (909,900).
Apparently, this is a trailer for an upcoming DVD called "Welcome to My Block" featuring behind the scenes footage with Block, Yung Joc, Boyz N Da Hood, Big Gee, Gorilla Zoe, Diddy and others. Watch below.
For the first time in a long time, Bad Boy is without a track on the Hot 100 with "Last Night" falling off the chart this week from the 39 spot.
According to Dailyiptv, Bad Boy has a channel on Joost, the free, legal internet TV on demand service. It's currently in beta and you can only get it by invite, but you can get an invite through GigaOM.
The channel currently features the videos for "Last Night", "Tell Me", "Long Way 2 Go", "Star in Da Hood", "Ride For You", "Show Stopper", "It's Goin' Down" and "1st Time".
Here are Bad Boy's positions on the latest Hot 100:
39. "Last Night" by Diddy (down from 31).
I just wanted to mention that Ashley Poole (of former Bad Boy group Dream) has launched a new MySpace page with a few songs up.
Via the Dream MySpace.
From DJBooth.net's interview with Carl Thomas:
DJ Booth: Certainly. The title, “So Much Better,” does this accurately capture your current feeling about life, Carl?
Carl Thomas: Absolutely, you know, I was a victim of a family tragedy. My brother, Halloween night 2004, was the victim of a drive-by shooting, and I was in the middle of promoting my second album, “Let’s Talk About It.” It kind of brought that album to a halt, because I kinda put the microphone down on it actually, and picked my family up; we went through that together, man, and I really didn’t have anything to say. ...
DJ Booth: Do you think that [Bad Boy maybe not being the place to sustain a superstar] is what mostly accounts for having your debut album reach platinum status, and then your sophomore album not doing the same type of numbers?
Carl Thomas: Naw, that’s really not what I attribute that to. I think the first album reached platinum, and the second album reached gold, because the second album I really wasn’t allowed to work it like I was allowed to work, “Emotional.”
DJ Booth: Why not?
Carl Thomas: Because, well my brother got killed, I just quit. You know, I did everything right there I’m just sayin’ promotion of the album – if the artist isn’t there, what are you able to do?
If this MySpace page is any indication, Kima (from former Bad Boy group Total) will make her cinematic debut in "Fiesta", based on the Shelley Halima novel Azucar Moreno, slated to begin filming this summer.
Here are Bad Boy's spots on the Hot 100 this week:
31. "Last Night" by Diddy (down from 26).
