Jacob Katel of the Miami New Times spoke with Jorge Marquez. He manages Xplicit, who is featured on Diddy's new track, "Diddy Bop." In the interview, he shared that they didn't expect Diddy to leave Xplicit on the track, after sending over the reference vocals.

Our job is to find out what artists or labels are in need of music. Bad Boy actually contacted us with news that Diddy wanted a street/club banger. We contacted our producers and Xplicit banged out "Diddy Bop." We presented the song to Diddy's A&R and the rest is history. Since the song was just a reference we didn't expect them to keep Xplicit on the hook, but Diddy liked his sound so much he decided to keep him on the track.

Let's go back in time some. In January of 2008, we reported that a proposed remake of "Party All the Time" by Fat Joe had been scrapped. The rapper's fresh stab at the Eddie Murphy hit was set to feature Diddy, who was to sing on Joe's album. And that was that.

Well, imagine my surprise when, during random surfing, I discovered that Diddy had actually contributed to a "Party All the Time" remake. Releasing on March 31 of this year, "PATT" (also labeled was "Patt with Diddy") is a reimagining of the Murphy track by Sharam, one half of the DJ duo Deep Dish, who produced a remix of Diddy's "Let's Get Ill" some years back. The 7:02 song features Diddy performing a short, spoken verse multiple times, in addition to a few other words here and there. It's a unique, catchy track. You can buy it on Amazon.com.

Diddy does not sing on the track, so it is unclear if these were leftover vocals from the Fat Joe collaboration or if they were specifically recorded by Sharam. Regardless, it's an interesting collaboration. You can listen to the long and short versions on Sharam's MySpace.

On DJ Hell's MySpace has the DJ Hell/Diddy collaboration, "The DJ." DJ Hell's MySpace classifies his music as electro, techno and new wave - so it's a little different and closer to the work Diddy has done with Felix Da Housecat, Erick Morillo and others.

According to a Bad Boy issued press release, "Diddy Bop" will be receiving an "official video," as opposed to the "unofficial video," that was released, featuring a montage of previously released Diddy and Bad Boy music videos. An official dance is also on the way.

The track was produced by Isaac Opus and co-written by Xplicit.

There is an extended version of "Diddy Bop" by Diddy that features Yung Joc, in addition to Xplicit. Listen to it at HipHopDX.com. Definitely digging both versions of this track.
