YouKnowIGotSoul has an interview with Mario Winans. In it, he discusses his upcoming third album, "My Purpose," the making of Diddy's "Thought You Said" and Tamia's "Mr. Cool," working with Diddy in the studio and more.
YKIGS: What about “Thought You Said” by Brandy and Diddy?
MW: Oh man that song. That track is a very special track to me. I was working on it in New York and it had kind of had a techno different type of feel to it. Brandy came in and it was a perfect fit for her. That was pretty much it, that song moved on really good. She’s phenomenal in the way she came in with her vocals and how unique the lyrics were to the record and she just nailed it.
Red Cafe has released the music video for "We Get It On" featuring Omarion. The clip, which was shot in May, also includes cameos from Fabolous and Busta Rhymes. Watch below.
"I had been living a little differently than what my purpose is and that is really just to humbly serve others, to pray for others and to really be a good person and live the way I believe," he said. "From that, I was inspired to title my album that because those changes were going on in my life while I was working on the album."
During the month of August, Red Cafe will be listening to freestyles submitted to XXL via their new mobile app. He'll be rating and writing about some of the freestyles he listed to and his thoughts will be featured on The Break.
If you are a regular reader of Bad Boy Blog, you know that every week we post the latest Bad Boy positions on the Billboard charts. Usually on Thursday.
You may have noticed that Thursday, July 21 came and went with no charts. And the same thing happened on July 28. I'd like to apologize for that.
The reason for it is that the login system on Billboard.biz has been down for at least 11 days. Billboard.biz, a more music industry focused site than Billboard.com, gives paying subscribers (like us) access to the full Billboard charts. I have called and emailed them and they said (last week) that it was a known issue that they were hoping to have fixed soon.
As soon as they fix it, we'll go back and post the charts that we have missed as well as the current charts.
Soul Culture has a making of feature about 112's self-titled debut album, from the perspective of group member Daron Jones and producer Steven "Stevie J." Jordan.
Among the cuts that didn't make the album were a collaboration with Blackstreet's Dave Hollister and "Erase The Day," a song that was produced by Al B. Sure! All in all, it's an interesting read. Check it out.
Today on Twitter, Janelle Monae announced plans to release an instrumental album of "The ArchAndroid." She also mentions that "new music is/'has been done." It's unclear if this is for the instrumental album or for her upcoming (vocal) album.
Maybach Music singer Masspike Miles has released "I Can't Take It (No More)," which samples Diddy's vocals from The Notorious B.I.G.'s "Who Shot Ya," including the Bad Boy CEO as a featured artist. The beat, which was originally sampled from David Porter's "I'm Afraid The Masquerade is Over," is also present.
Singersroom.com reports that, during an appearance on Access Hollywood, singer Kelly Rowland revealed that she had agreed to become the new "ambassador" for Empress, the new fragrance for women from Sean John.
In a post on his official blog, U.K. singer Robbie Williams offered praise for Janelle Monae.
"Have you lot checked out Janelle Monae?," he wrote. "Go check the whole concept... she's come up with where it's at... me thinks. Inspiring and unique."
