On Saturday, singer Amy Winehouse was found dead in her home in London. The Associated Press collected reactions from many performers and public figures. Among them, Janelle Monae.

"I was honored then and I am now that I had the opportunity to share the same tour and stage with Amy this year in Brazil ... At our first meeting she was very shy, a sweet girl. Her first words to me were, 'It's so nice to meet you finally, I'm shy, you're a shy girl like me, huh?' ... I am so happy for her recordings as we will forever get to hear a rare talent with a voice all her own. There will never be a tone or vocal delivery like Amy's. May her music and voice live forever."
