Monae will be featured in the "Ladies First: the 90's and the New Millennium" section, where she will be honored among Bikini Kill, Meg White, Taylor Swift, Queen Latifah, Alicia Keys and Lady Gaga.
NBC New York reports that Birdel’s Records, a Brooklyn-based music shop, has closed it's doors. According to the owner, Joe Long, a young Christopher Wallace used to sample records in the basement. Long has decided to retire after working in the store for 44 years (and owning it for 33).
The winners at the 42nd NAACP Image Awards were announced last night and Dirty Money did not pick up the win in the Outstanding Duo, Group or Collaboration category where they had been nominated. Instead, John Legend and The Roots were honored.

According to a press release, Janelle Monae will be among 12 honorees featured in the third annual Character Approved Awards. The special documentary will air on the USA Network at 11 PM ET on March 8.
