FASTEN YOUR SEAT BELT
THE ROLLERCOASTER RIDE CONTINUES
WITH MTVS MAKING THE BAND 4 SEASON FINALE
TUESDAY, OCTOBER 7TH AT 9PM ET/PT

New York, New York September 30, 2008 The rollercoaster ride continues on Tuesday, October 7th at 9pm ET/PT with the Making The Band 4, Season Finale.

The intense season winds down but doesnt cool off. In the season finale viewers will be left speechless when a fan favorite of the groups goes head to head with Diddy leaving everyone shocked at the outcome. The drama will reach new heights as the very survival of the groups is at stake. From number one records, to a whirl wind promotional tour, to budding romances, to an unexpected reunion, this season of MTVs Making The Band 4 has given viewers more than they could have ever expected. Danity Kane, Day26 and Donnie Klang will continue to share their experiences with viewers in this powerful season finale that will have fans wanting more.

The dramatic Making The Band 4 season finale will span from the streets of NYC to the sun-drenched beaches of Cabo. Viewers will bask in the sun when Diddy rewards Danity Kane and Day26 with a well deserved break after their big promotional tour. Making The Band fans will experience another first as Donnie Klang unveils the sexiness with the long awaited release of his first album JUST A ROLLING STONE. Viewers will be there when a fan favorite of the group goes head to head with Diddy leaving everyone speechless and shocked at the outcome. This season finale will be like no other as it taps into every human emotion and brings some of the most talked about moments to-date.

This season, media mogul Diddy, continued to show his chart topping artists Danity Kane and Day26 why hes one of the best in the business, while guiding and developing solo artist Donnie Klang. Viewers were able to witness first hand the growth of Danity Kanes Aubrey, Dawn, Shannon, D Woods and Aundrea and share in the success of their second album WELCOME TO THE DOLLHOUSE which spawned the hit summer anthem Damaged. Fans got up close and personal with rising stars Day26 as their first self titled album climbed the charts. The excitement continued when long time show choreographer Laurie Ann Gibson boom-kaked her way back on the show after her dramatic blow-up with Diddy more than a year ago, surprising everyone including the man himself. Laurie Ann managed to whip Day26 in shape giving them the skills to perform like real stars. From Aubrey and Diddys constant power struggles to Brian and Laurie Anns creative differences this wouldnt be Making The Band without the drama.

Sean Diddy Combs, Ted Iredell and Perry Dance serve as executive producers. Jacquelyn French is the MTV executive overseeing 'The Making The Band' franchise. Francesca Spero is Producer for Bad Boy Entertainment.

So, who's the "fan favorite"? Aubrey would be the one everyone jumps to. TV drama would indicate it's someone else!

This press release just came out, concerning "StarMaker":

MTV TEAMS UP WITH SEAN COMBS AND MARK BURNETT TO SEARCH FOR NEXT AMERICAN MUSIC SUPERSTAR WITH NEW REALITY SERIES "STARMAKER"

New York, New York September xx, 2008 MTV teams up with entertainment powerhouse Sean Combs and revolutionary, Emmy Award winning producer Mark Burnett for the brand new reality series "StarMaker." The new series will set out to find the next history making superstars. MTV and Sean Combs have been developing "StarMaker" since fall of 07 and made the decision to bring Mark Burnett on board this spring. "StarMaker" is greenlit for January 2009.

"StarMaker" will showcase aspiring solo artists who will compete with the added pressure of living together. In the new series Sean Combs will continue to do what he does best on the hit series "Making The Band," spot the best talent while pushing them to their limits. But in this new format both men and women will be competing as individuals for the top spot. Sean Combs hand picked team of star makers will put them through the rigors of "StarMaker" boot camp which extends well beyond just a contestants ability to sing. In addition to having to perform in front of an audience each week the contestants will be tested on how well they handle photo shoots, deal with paparazzi, physically perform on stage and more.

"Its a privilege to partner with Mark Burnett on my latest television venture. He is one of the industrys best. I am confident that we will do great things together with "StarMaker" and beyond," remarks Sean Combs.

"Im looking forward to collaborating with MTV and Sean Combs on this new project" said Mark Burnett. "StarMaker will open the door to the tremendous amount of talent out there just waiting to be discovered. We've created a platform that will allow new and emerging artists a chance to showcase their talents to some of the industrys best."

"Sean Combs and Mark Burnett are leaders in the entertainment industry and have both been an integral part of MTVs success throughout the years," said Tony DiSanto, EVP Series Development & Programming, MTV. "Getting these two titans of media together, with their long history of hits across platforms but especially in TV and music is a formula for spectacle, drama and the unexpected."

Emmy nominated executive producer for "Raisin in the Sun," Sean Combs is the ultimate American entertainer and entrepreneur, while wearing many different hats as record producer, CEO, clothing designer, actor, rapper and much, much more. Hes made hit records, huge business deals, designer clothing and founded the chart-topping artists Danity Kane and Day26. "StarMaker" will join an already impressive roster of television shows that Sean Combs has executive produced including the hit MTV series "Making The Band," "Runs House" and the most recent VH1 show that he created " I Want to Work For Diddy." One of the driving forces behind reality television and a true visionary, Mark Burnett has enjoyed a long history of executive producing Emmy Award-winning television, with "Survivor" (CBS) "The Apprentice" (NBC), "Rock Star" (CBS), "Contender" (ESPN) and "Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader?" (FOX). In 2007 and 2008, Burnett produced the MTV Movie Awards and will again in 2009. Burnetts entrepreneurial spirit pioneered the success of the reality "unscripted" drama series, garnered skyrocketing ratings and introduced millions worldwide to an entirely new television genre. "StarMaker" is executive produced by Sean "Diddy" Combs, Mark Burnett and Audrey Morrissey. Co-executive producers are Jim Roush and Lee Metzger and Jane Mun is supervising producer. Tony DiSanto, Liz Gateley and Jacquelyn French serve as Executive Producers for MTV.

Myfoxdc.com has an interview with Boris from "I Want to Work for Diddy."

Did you ever receive any words of wisdom from Diddy that stuck with you?

I recall on the occasion on one of our more personal conversations Diddy expressed that whatever you do in the industry you had to do it with 120% of your heart, mind, and soul. Which means you have to throw your entire being into being a success in this business. Although you might have to sacrifice a bit of sleep and recreation to obtain your goals, and once you obtain your goals hopefully you will find that the sacrifices were well worth it.

Well... that was interesting. Janelle Monae appeared on BET's 106 & Park just now, to premiere the video for "Many Moons." Before the video aired, the back and forth between Terrence and Rocsi and Janelle was perhaps a little awkward. Monae has a unique way about her, obviously, and I'm sure the nerves of the situation didn't help. But, the "Metropolis" concept was a little confusing as she described it and I think she sort of lost the hosts at that point and they were unsure what to make of her.

At any rate, the video itself is pretty cool - except for one thing. It looked like they created a widescreen film, but didn't modify it for regular screens. So, at the beginning, some of the text in the video, introducing various characters, was cut off. That aside, like I said, cool video. Captures the whole thing pretty well.

After the video aired, there was some more talking and that part went really well. Janelle presented each host with an autographed vinyl copy and Rocsi said that she loved the video, saying that it might be the video of the year.

Sixshot.com has an interview with Mista Raja.

Sixshot.Com: What is it like working with Diddy?

Mista Raja: Working with Diddy is always a high pressure situation because he's such a beast in the studio honestly. He's demanding and he knows how to pull the best out of you at all times. He can test you but when he does the best will rise out of you, thats for sure. Being around him just makes you better as an artist. ...

Sixshot.Com: You wrote on 'Come to Me', which was a huge record. Did you think it was going to be that big?

Mista Raja: I knew it was going to be a hit right off the bat because that's all Diddy does. The man makes hits and his track record speaks for itself. I was worried how people were going to react to him just because of the fact that he took such a long break between albums but Press Play was a great project and I thank God that I was on it. The whole process was amazing and it came out great. It was a real success for everybody involved in it.

Aubrey O'Day from Danity Kane is on the cover of and is heavily featured in the newest issue of Complex. She also receives a lot of exposure on their website, as well. There is an interview, photo shoot gallery and three video features, that I've included below.

Once again (and again and again), she takes it upon herself to bring negative controversy to the group. It's not being in Complex that's bad, nor is it racy photos (see: Cassie), it's what she says in the interview. Aubrey likes to criticize the media for how they portray her. The media can be unfair. But, sometimes, it's you. In Aubrey's case, it's her. That sounds harsh, but you can't criticize the media while you continually feed them the very things you criticize them about. It just doesn't work that way.

Back in March of 2007, I reported that G. Dep was no longer signed to Bad Boy. SOHH.com quotes Dep from a video produced by Digital Hustle Films, and it sounds like he's saying he's still signed.

Right now, the situation over there [at Bad Boy] is like, you know, if you not in motion, you in slow motion. So slow motion is better than none. So right now were on our grind, Dep said. We gonna try to get our situation going on and then, you know, we just gonna keep it pushing, you know?

I don't know what this means. But, I've reached out to the label for some sort of confirmation either way, just to make sure.

Recently, the all-important Billboard Hot 100 chart celebrated it's 50th anniversary and the magazine pulled out all the stops in it's September 20th issue. Bad Boy was highlighted a number of times, most of the time related to "I'll Be Missing You."

The song was listed as number 84 on the definitive list of the Hot 100's hottest charting titles of all-time. On the listing of the hottest R&B and rap songs on the chart, in it's history, it was listed at 35.

During the track's run, it was number 1 on the Hot 100 chart for a grand total of 11 weeks. Only 11 songs have been at that spot longer. It is one of only 15 songs to debut at the top spot.

Finally, there was one other Bad Boy related track featured. It was Mario Winans' "I Don't Want to Know." This song held the number 2 spot on the chart, without reaching number one, for 8 weeks. Only four songs have done this longer.

Complex has an interview with Nelly. On a Bad Boy related note:

Complex: Whats the deal with the Sean John ads?

Nelly: I did one for my man Puffy. Hes a cool dude.

Complex: How long are you locked into that? Is it just one season, or were you guys going to talk about expanding that?

Nelly: Nah, its a thing where Puff is my man. He wanted to do something that we thought would be special. He wanted to launch something, and I had an album coming out, and we thought that it would be a good thing for both sides. Puffy is a real, real good friend of mine. Its very rare that you could have people that you can call directly when you have a problem and things of that nature. When I was trying to get Apple Bottoms off the ground, he would give me advice, and lead me in the right direction. He had Sean John, he had things poppin off, and he didnt really have to do that, and I thought that was real hot. It meant a lot to me. Obviously we handle business, its not a thing where Nelly is officially a Sean John model, I just did an ad.

This was an interesting clip, posted by Theo in the forums, so I wanted to pass it on. It's tough to watch with the hosts, who fall into something that is way too easy to fall into... which is hearing stories and then mixing a dislike for authority and power with said stories to turn them into something resembling fact. I like how "we as a public" know what's "really going on." Heh.

Slim is the one who makes the clip worthwhile. He handles it well and explains various parts of the break up, from the 112 perspective. The person he's talking about, that he wouldn't name, has to be Kevin Wales, who brought 112 and B5 to Bad Boy.

From the press release:

Dollhouse, one of the most recognized junior contemporary lines has tapped multi-platinum pop group, Danity Kane to launch Danity Kane for Dollhouse Jeans. The line of jeans will hit retail this November, in time for the busy holiday shopping season.

New York, NY (PRWEB) September 16, 2008 -- Dollhouse, one of today's most recognized juniors denim brands, has partnered with multi-Platinum female pop group, Danity Kane, to launch a denim line set to hit retail in November. Danity Kane's #1 album Welcome to the Dollhouse served as the inspiration behind the collaboration. The line will have Danity Kane inspired hardware and overall design and is set to be carried in Macy's, Mandee, specialty stores, and on Dollhouse.com, with retail set at $58.

The group's input on personal style played a significant role in the development of the line. Design details include distressed denim, leather detail outlined pockets, coated denim with gel embroideries, and novelty patterned denim with intricate metal/zipper details. All Danity Kane for Dollhouse styles will have back pockets and trim details with the Danity Kane logo.

To support the launch of Danity Kane for Dollhouse jeans, an exclusive press preview was held on August 18, where MTV cameras filmed the action for an upcoming episode of Making the Band 5. During the event, in an interview with Extra!, Aubrey O'Day, a member of the group who recently starred in Hairspray, expressed the group's desire to create a jeans line that caters to a broader range of body types.

"We have diverse women in this group and want to make sure that our Dollhouse jeans fit every type of body, from big booties to small booties, and look fabulous. Plus it's affordable and that's the best thing about it."

Dawn Richard, a member of the group adds, "We're excited about this partnership with Dollhouse. The jeans are fun with cute hardware and details that imbue Danity Kane. It's like what we would wear to school!"

Dollhouse.com & Danitykane.com will feature exclusive content and contests with online shopping deals directly targeting their customer base where they spend most of their time.

For both parties it's a win-win situation. Dollhouse can attract the Danity Kane fan base and Danity Kane can extend their empire to the fashion industry. With Dollhouse's youthful and trendy style combined with the diverse individual styles of Danity Kane this partnership is a sure success.

Since the premiere of the third season of Making the Band 4, both Danity Kane and Day26 have seen their albums move up the charts in noteworthy fashion.

Billboard released the August 31 charts just two days after the premiere, on August 21, so they would not really have accounted for the impact of the show. This makes them a good starting point. Here is how the albums have performed, since that date:

A new version of the Darkchild remix of the Pussycat Dolls' "When I Grow Up" has been released. Lil' Wayne has been taken off of the track and Rock City has been added. The intro is cleaner, as well, with Diddy's vocals being left uninterrupted as Fatman Scoop and Lil' Wayne have been removed. You can listen to it on DJBooth.net.

So, we've got this little "controversy" about Diddy owning a jet - or not. I find that most Diddy related controversy or criticism is fueled by a lack of knowledge or research. Alex Rodekrans of Halogen Guides puts to rest claims that Diddy doesn't own a jet.

Now, as a veteran of the rap game, P. Diddy hardly needs our help to brush off the haters, so to speak. However, it pains us to see fractional ownership programs like NetJets so misunderstood in the popular press. NetJets owners are not purchasing time aboard an aircraft, as some suggest. Instead fractional jet holders are the legal owners of a portion of an aircraft, which is then leased back to the fractional company who manages the plane and regulates its use.

SixShot.com: Faith Evans is also on your album, do you still have a relationship with most of your ex Bad Boy label mates that you basically grew up with?

Joc, born Jasiel Robinson, began his journey to becoming a "genuine G" growing up in Georgia listening to Run DMC, Slick Rick, Outkast and other artists who inspired him to pursue a career in music.

"I go all across the board, and I've been in the business for a long time," Joc said. "I have good relationships with promoters because of my experience, and my ambition has given me the ability to connect with people."

Jackson is currently in the studio working with Bad Boy Records/ Making of the Band - A&R, Conrad Dimanche, and dedicates his forthcoming album "Probable Cause" to the U.S. Army. Muggsy thanks the Sergeant for not "Burning his dreams".

Malone's album is slated for release in March of 2009 and will include production by Infamous, Amadeus, JR. Reid, and Mario Winans, amongst others. Staying close to Washington, the young artist is an advocate and volunteer for the Barack Obama Campaign. Warpath Records label publicist, Tiffiany Vaughn, also reports that the former service man will star in an online reality series entitled "The Making of the Next Big Thing" which is anticipated to air weekly on MySpace.com this fall.

"The Next Big Thing" chronicles the life of a rap artist from the time of signing up through the road to release. Warpath Records CEO Robert Hardy was interested in educating unsigned aspiring acts, the complete process of artist development and the business. Malone's episodes catch him in those not for camera moments, as well as display important aspects of the music business from publicity to promotion. The webisodes are being produced by Malik Buie, and are scheduled to premier in late September.

It's that time oif the week: time for new rankings for the remaining contestants on "I Want to Work for Diddy". The sixth episode has aired and here are my rankings, based on each person's overall chance of winning.

1. Suzanne (Last Week: 1). I would say that, as far as this challenge was concerned, she was outperformed by Stefanie and Mic. However, her overall performance is what keeps her on top. On the losing team, she was the most productive.

2. Mic (LW: 3). This challenge restored my faith in him. When it came to execution, he was excellent. From the way it looked, he sold more product than any person on either team. He completely understood what he needed to do and he killed it, due to his outgoing nature.

3. Stefanie (LW: 2). It was hard to drop her here because she doesn't really deserve it. I could go either way between her and Mic - I just have a feeling about Mic and how he carries himself. Stefanie put in a great performance in this challenge, as an important part of the winning team.

4. Red (LW: 5). Red was unproductive when it came to sales. To his credit, he kept his cool when dealing with Kim. He moves up due to elimination, as do the next 3.

5. Kendra (LW: 6). It's tough for me to recall what Kendra did for this challenge, so it must not have been a lot. On the plus side, she seemed to realize that sales were not her strength here, she seemed to let Stefanie and Mic do the talking, while still staying in the mix.

6. Boris (LW: 7). Which brings us to Boris. He was in a similar boat to Kendra except that he didn't keep himself in the mix. After being laughed at because he didn't know the product, he seemed to fall back a bit.

7. Kim (LW: 8). Keeping up her old tricks. She wanted to make someone a leader, but she didn't want to be it. Good try. Once again, she survives the judges cut. Somehow.

Eliminated. Laverne (LW: 4). Poor Laverne. If she hadn't been eliminated, I would have put her fourth, most likely. She joins the other heads above Kim's fireplace.

So, those are my ranks. What are yours?

Billboard has an interesting feature on the marketing success of Danity Kane.

Danity Kane most closely resembles the Pussycat Dolls, a dance troupe turned musical group that has extended its brand into reality TV and product endorsements. "They're not as big as the Pussycat Dolls, but they're doing all the right steps to get there," Bad Boy co-owner/president Harve Pierre says.

But where, exactly, is "there?" Even Pierre acknowledges that "Danity Kane was made via a reality show, and they owe it all to the marketing genius of Diddy."

Designer and winner Jesli Banks from MTVs Sean John: Internship by Design competition, will partner with fellow winning finalists Jason Santiago and Graehme Field to debut Menage A Trois, an edgy, nostalgic and flora fauna show during New Yorks Fashion Week. The fashion show takes place Thursday, September 11, 2008 at HK Lounge at 8pm.

Winning the Internship by Design Competition and working with Diddy has been a dream come true, says Banks. I absolutely love Diddy, his creativity and dedication to Sean John. I've learned how to create a fierce collection while staying true to my vision. Now I want to make history!

Jesli Banks new Berkli Collection Spring/Summer 2009 Nostalgia line will be the show-stopping finale. Banks fresh collection is tie-dye inspired with flowing silk chiffons, satin charmeuse, body conscious metallic leathers and boasts vibrant colors. The clothes are feminine and nostalgic, with retro appeal.

Joining Jesli to create the Menage a Trois are collections by Jason Santiago and Graehme Field, who were also winning finalists in the MTV/Sean John Intern By Design competition. Jasons Spring/ Summer 2009: edgy collection symbolizes a reflection of his personality, charm and edge. It combines femininity with a twist of street, with earth tones and a bit of urban, infused with glam.

Graehme Fields Fall/Winter 2009: Flora Fauna For Fall collection is based on the idea of mixing elements from summer into a fall/ winter collection. The collections theme is echoed in the hundreds of hand cut flowers, each artfully arranged on certain pieces. Fabrications are thick felts and woolens along with some very feminine fabrics. Femininity and adornment is the key!, says Graehme.

The show begins promptly at 8pm, Thursday, September 11th at H.K. Lounge, 523 Ninth Avenue, New York City.

About The Designers
Jesli Banks is a Detroit native and a graduate of Michigan State University. She studied at the Fashion Institute of Technology and landed an internship with New York designers Joanna Mastrioanni and Olga Kapustina. In 2006 she joined the Ebony Fashion Fair tour as a wardrobe stylist from 2006-2007. Jesli is the winner of the MTV/Sean John: Intern By Design competition and is currently interning at Sean John. The collection can be seen at www.myberkli.com.

Graehme Field, a Rhode Island native, grew up in a flannel shirt town with dreams of the big city and the prestigious fashion industry. After a scholarship and a year at The Art Institute of New York City he was chosen for The Sean John Internship By Design, an MTV reality show. Check out this video, featuring Picaso, a Bad Boy fan, former Bad Boy intern and A&R for Bryan-Michael Cox, talk about Diddy's production talents and his desire, as a fan, to see him return as a producer.

I loved watching this, as a fan, and agreed with most of it. I liked the note at the end, about artists who have complained and left Bad Boy. I really like Donnie Klang's album and Cassie's, so far, sounds great, as well. Day26 and Danity Kane dropped great efforts this year, as well. But, I would love to see Diddy get back behind the boards as a producer more. In fact, I wrote about this last October.

You simply cannot mess with Diddy's production predigree. Some people try to, they try to cheapen it. But, you can't. The guy has produced insane, monster records and, for the most part, no one in the world can stack up to what he's done and accomplished.

There is a certain selfishness to this sort of request, as a fan, however. What I believe Diddy fans like about the man, in addition to other things, is his drive and his creativity. He accomplished what you can accomplish as a producer. And he moved on to other things. He's an artist, that's why we like him, and artists evolve and they do other things. They change. I loved "Press Play," I loved the variety. I don't mean to say that I want Diddy to go back to 1997. That doesn't make any sense. You grow and change. You can't do what you've already done, you have to do something new.

Interestingly, Diddy has stepped back into producer mode again, recently, with "Welcome to the Dollhouse" (3 tracks) and "Day26" (7) and with "Take You There" for Donnie Klang. And I've liked a lot of it. But, I do miss the frequency of his production and of remixes. Bad Boy remixes, man.

As I wrote back in July, Diddy has expressed an interest in bringing The Hitmen back together, but it didn't gain any steam, thanks to a lack of interest from others. So, it's on his mind.

But, again, it's unrealistic and unreasonable to expect such a thing. You can't produce with that regularity and be the CEO of Bad Boy, manage Sean John, work with Ciroc, be an actor and all of the other things that he does. Diddy's certainly earned the right to do whatever it is that he wants without anyone slighting him for it. At the same time, that doesn't mean that we can't dream, right?

Having watched episode 5 of "I Want to Work for Diddy" it's time for me to rank the contestants based on their overall chances, in my opinion.

1. Suzanne (Last Week: 1). She was in the background a lot on this one. But, the fact that you didn't hear from her means she didn't cause any drama. For me, it's about overall consistency. She may not have stood out exceptionally, but she didn't hurt the team, she didn't create any distractions and the team won. She's been consistently good.

2. Stefanie (LW: 3). She got things done in taking care of Kim Porter the first day and then shopping for the gift the guys were supposed to get, on the second day. Not to mention picking up clothes for Justin Combs. Main negative: she played Porter too close. As they pointed out during the judging session, they need an assistant and not a friend. But, overall, quite productive and she gets boosted up a slot.

3. Mic (LW: 2). Mic continued to show strength in focusing and getting things done. But, there were a few miscues and that is why he falls. Perhaps the most noticible one: the idea of buying Diddy clothes as a gift. Diddy has his own clothing label and his own fashion consultants. They met Derek, one of his assistants, earlier in the series. Derek's a fashion advisor. Diddy knows what he wants in clothes and he buys them himself. That could have been a disaster.

4. Laverne (LW: 4). Like Suzanne, she stayed in the background, but was productive and didn't create any negatives. Not to mention she had to switch teams, abruptly, at the very start of the challenge. She adapted well and her team won.

5. Red (LW: 6). Red gains for a few reasons. He was the leader of the challenge for his team and his team won. Unlike past episodes, there were not any flare ups or loud arguments. He didn't let Kim bait him and he picked out a great gift that fit the description provided by Diddy's mother.

Singersroom has an interview with Donnie Klang.

Singersroom: You mentioned that your beginning to create a brand, how would you sum up your sense of fashion?

Donnie: Its a pretty crazy because I have developed so much over the past year from rocking a hoody and sweat pants. Now I am more high fashion not only am I taking my style from New York but I am traveling internationally. I am even putting this into my music as far as trying to be innovative, staying fresh and staying a step ahead of whats out there now. For example, the song Stereo will represent that.

thisisswansea.co.uk has quotes from Donnie Klang on what it's like to work with Diddy.

... he's that inspirational, tough drill-sergeant, to say the least. But it's good. I'm glad to have him as a boss. He doesn't let us get comfortable in our positions. He demands perfection. He sits back at first and let you do what you do, and when it gets to a certain point, he'll step in. Sometimes he'll change the whole song, and scrap songs.
