SOHH.com asked Cee-Lo Green to he felt was the most underrated music artist. His pick? Janelle Monae.
"There's a lot of reasons why I feel like Janelle could be considered the most underrated right now," he wrote. "I think the biggest reason is because she kind of reminds me a little bit of myself. I love the fact that she embodies so much that the average mind of anyone, let alone a music consumer, would deviate from the course of an entire album."
"I've been salivating for Janelle Monae's debut album since I heard her gorgeously breathy voice on her Off the Wall-style single "Lettin' Go!" She was already my favorite new artist before she put out her brilliant Metropolis EP, but on the heels of her epic Grammy performance, I imagine I'll be hearing my favorite new artist on the radio constantly."
Monae will be featured in the "Ladies First: the 90's and the New Millennium" section, where she will be honored among Bikini Kill, Meg White, Taylor Swift, Queen Latifah, Alicia Keys and Lady Gaga.
According to a press release, Janelle Monae will be among 12 honorees featured in the third annual Character Approved Awards. The special documentary will air on the USA Network at 11 PM ET on March 8.
Check out a clip below where Monae discusses how she used to tour dorm rooms around Atlanta and how people would knock on her door to buy her "The Audition" EP.
