The last few months have been a little crazy and, as such, we have been focusing on high level stories - or stories that happened to cross my desk - here at Bad Boy Blog. At the same time, being a comprehensive source, I at least wanted to summarize some of the stories that fell through the cracks during this time. Check out some of them below.
Janelle Monae Performs Live and Chats with NPR's "World Cafe"
Atlanta Records has released part one and their "Game Changers" series that features artists from the label talking about the music business and the creation of music. Janelle Monae is one of the "game changers," along with B.o.B., Estelle and Lupe Fiasco. Watch below.
ESSENCE announced via press release today that, joined by Diddy, they would be hosting a pre-GRAMMY event in honor of Janelle Monae on February 9.
The second annual ESSENCE "Black Women in Music" event will be hosted by ESSENCE.com Managing Editor Emil Wilbekin, Joy Bryant and Taraji P. Henson and will feature a performance from Monae and Big Boi.
"Janelle Monae is a remarkable creative force and a passionately talented young performer, who perfectly personifies ESSENCE as the 'voice and soul' of Black women," Essence.com managing editor Emil Wilbekin said in the release. "As fans around the world continue to embrace Janelle's artistic vision, we are recognizing her tremendous influence among her peers with a salute to her contributions at the 2nd annual ESSENCE 'Black Women in Music' event."
After a performance in Moscow, Russian, Janelle Monae met with German fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld. Lagerfeld serves as a creative director for iconic brands Chanel and Fendi, and has his own label, as well. Lagerfeld had some very nice praise for Monae.
Janelle Monae's "The ArchAndroid" ranked fifth overall, taking first place in three individual lists (Chicago Tribune's Greg Kot, PopMatters and WBEZ/Sound Opinions' Jim DeRogatis), second place in another (Paste) and being ranked 8 additional times.
TIME has named Janelle Monae's "Tightrope" number 2 in their list of the top 10 songs of 2010. The list also includes Cee-Lo Green, Kanye West and Drake, among others.
NME has the dates on a newly announced five day tour of the U.K. by Janelle Monae, including stops in Bristol, Birmingham, Glasgow, Manchester and London, from February 24 through March 1.
