01/18: Diddy and ESSENCE to "Salute" Janelle Monae at "Black Women in Music" Event
ESSENCE announced
via press release today that, joined by Diddy, they would be hosting a pre-GRAMMY event in honor of Janelle Monae on February 9.
The second annual ESSENCE "Black Women in Music" event will be hosted by ESSENCE.com Managing Editor Emil Wilbekin, Joy Bryant and Taraji P. Henson and will feature a performance from Monae and Big Boi.
"Janelle Monae is a remarkable creative force and a passionately talented young performer, who perfectly personifies ESSENCE as the 'voice and soul' of Black women," Essence.com managing editor Emil Wilbekin said in the release. "As fans around the world continue to embrace Janelle's artistic vision, we are recognizing her tremendous influence among her peers with a salute to her contributions at the 2nd annual ESSENCE 'Black Women in Music' event."
Janelle Monae is
nominated in two GRAMMY categories. The awards show will air on February 13 at 8 PM ET.
