Diddy/Dirty Money
"Last Train to Paris," the long-anticipated sixth album from Diddy, now recording as part of Dirty Money, along with Dawn Richard and Kalenna, has been in development, in at least one form of another, for more than a year and a half. Now that it appears that the album will finally reach our hands on June 22, I thought that this would be a good time to take stock of the project and everything that we know about it.

Concept

"Last Train to Paris" is a conceptual album that centers around a love story. It's about "finding love, losing love and getting love back again," Dawn Richard told MTV News. Diddy shared the back story with MTV's Shaheem Reid. His character in the concept story meets a girl and they grow close. But, they separate after a misunderstanding.

"She just breaks out on a n****," Diddy told Reid. "But an absence makes the heart grow fonder. She's singing to me; I'm performing to her. We're in two different parts of the world. She's remembering all the good times, and I'm thinking about if I had another chance, I wouldn't f*** it up. So, I go on tour and I'm in London. I get a tip that she's in Paris, and it's 9:45 p.m. or something. It's one of the foggiest days in London, so I can't take my plane. I can't drive, the road is shut down. The only way I can get there is the last train to Paris, and it leaves in 20 minutes and I'm 15 minutes away. It's that whole intensity of what happens on the train ride - and will she be there when I get there - is something else you'll hear."

MuchMusic has a few short clips with Dirty Money from Diddy's house in Los Angeles. They joke about the group's swag and talk about what Dirty Money is.

On Twitter, Red Cafe provided a free download link for a remix to "Hello Good Morning" that features an opening verse from him. T.I.'s verse and the rest of the track remains the same as the original.

For an April Fool's Day prank, I reported that Red Cafe, Rick Ross, Pharrell, Nas and Jay-Z would all appear on remixes to "Hello Good Morning." Since Ross threw a verse on it, we're now 2/5 of the way there. Sorta.

Update: This has been confirmed.

In the last few days, Diddy has retweeted a pair of tweets indicating that he will be appearing on "Inside the Actors Studio," the long running entertainment interview show, hosted by James Lipton. From the tweets, it looks like he'll be taping something on April 13 at Pace University in New York City.

I've reached out to Bravo, the channel the program airs on, for confirmation and more details.

Following up on my post about the "Diddy - Dirty Money" branding confusion, check out the group's interview with Ryan Seacrest on April 1. On it, Diddy addresses the group's name.

"There's a reason why we gotta be called 'Diddy - Dirty Money' - just in case there's any other groups out there like that," he said. "We want to make sure people know the difference, that we 'Diddy - Dirty Money." We gonna really start going by the name of 'The DM Crew,' so we can have it really, really clear."

He also talks about his business school idea, some crazy partying, Diddy's thoughts on Pink's Grammy performance and more.

It has been almost a year since the group name "Dirty Money" was revealed by Dawn Richard on the Making the Band 4, Season 3, Part 2 finale.

The next day, we found out that the third member was Kalenna, even if we didn't quite yet know how to spell her name. A few months later, Diddy introduced Dirty Money as Sean, Dawn and Kelenna.

When some of the earliest visual branding of the group was released, such as the single covers for "Angels" and "Love Come Down," the songs were labeled as being by "Diddy - Dirty Money." This is exactly how the music videos have been credited and how the the songs are labeled on digital music services like Amazon and iTunes.

Single Cover: "Angels" by Diddy/Dirty Money featuring The Notorious B.I.G.

However, there is a small issue that I've noticed and it's one of brand confusion. Though it has been floating around for a while now, it was underscored when, before Dirty Money's appearance on American Idol, host Ryan Seacrest introduced them as "Diddy Dirty Money." Of course, "Diddy Dirty Money" isn't actually a thing. Diddy is an individual performer who is a member of the group Dirty Money.

Updating my post earlier today about the promised free download of Dirty Money's American Idol performance, long time Bad Boy Blog reader Curtis commented, informing me that the performance was on iTunes - at the price of $1.49.

In the run-up to the show, Bad Boy had said that the performance would be up on iTunes for free on April 1. I checked throughout the day and the video was never, in my viewing, listed in the free section of iTunes or of the special American Idol section.

It's unclear if the free download has just been pushed back or if it has been canceled entirely. I'm working on finding out more. Stay tuned.
