I received a copy of the "Bad Boy Sampler 08" which features snippets of tracks from the upcoming albums from Danity Kane ("Welcome to the Dollhouse") and Day 26 ("Day 26"), along with an intro, interlude and outro from Diddy.
The Danity Kane portion of the sampler features "Damaged", "Pretty Boy", "Bad Girl", "Striptease" and "Poetry". "Damaged", of course, I've already heard in full as it is featured in the Bad Boy Blog audio player. So, check that out. But, here are some quick thoughts on what I heard.
I really like "Damaged". Very catchy, great vocals - I think it's a terrific single. Really, I haven't been as excited about a single as I am with "Damaged" and "Got Me Going" (from Day 26) since Diddy released "Last Night". A great track.
After that, "Bad Girl" would be my current favorite. Again, very catchy. The track has a unique sound, created by The Runners. The snippet doesn't include Missy Elliott's part. But, what I did hear, I liked.
"Striptease", I was unsure of when I first heard it. But, as I listened to it, it grew on me. Yet another catchy, up beat track. I like the production from Danja behind "Pretty Boy", with it's dramatic (and yet, squeaky) sound, but the vocals on this one don't strike me as much as they do on the other tracks. But, I only heard about a minute of it. It has potential and we'll see what the rest sounds like.
Though it's listenable, the one track I can't really see myself getting into is "Poetry". One of those slow tracks the group was so down on in the last episode of Making the Band, it just doesn't fit within my personal taste.
But, overall, I'm very much looking forward to "Welcome to the Dollhouse". What I heard in the sampler sounds very promising in the group's quest for a worthy follow up to their self titled debut. I'll have my thoughts on the Day 26 portion of the sampler later today.
Just as there was two weeks ago, Danity Kane's MySpace will host a chat with the group at 11:00 PM ET on Monday, March 3, after the next episode of Making the Band 4.
Unfortunately, it looks as though they will use the same Meebo client from the earlier chat. I stopped by for that one and it was really messy with chatters seemingly talking at will and what appeared to be Danity Kane impersonators.
According to a source that worked on the track, Rick Ross will be featured on "Ecstasy" from Danity Kane's upcoming album, "Welcome to the Dollhouse". Or "Extasy" or "Exstasy" - however they end up spelling it.
In an exclusive to Bad Boy Blog, the tracklisting for Danity Kane's upcoming sophmore album was given to us, along with the tracklistings for the iTunes and Target exclusive versions, by a source at the label. As with the "Day 26" tracklistings, this may not be the 100% finished product, but it should be pretty close.
Here's the tracklisting for the regular version:
1. "Bad Girl"
2. "Damaged"
3. "Pretty Boy"
4. "Strip Tease"
5. "Sucka For Love"
6. "Secret Place (Interlude)"
7. "Ecstasy"
8. "2 Of You"
9. "Lights Out"
10. "Picture This (Interlude)"
11. "Poetry"
12. "Key To My Heart"
13. "Flashback (Interlude)"
14. "Is Anybody Listening"
15. "Ain't Going"
The iTunes version is the same, except that it lists "Show Stopper" twice and "Damaged" three times. One of those extra mentions of "Damaged", I would figure to be the video for the song. But, what's the third mention and the two mentions of "Show Stopper"? Hard to say. It could be a remix or it could just be some sort of placeholder for the real bonus. Stay tuned.
Meanwhile, the Target exclusive version adds a new track, "Make Me Sick".
In a video blog, Dawn Richard talked about the video for "Damaged", the group's upcoming album and more. Watch below. She calls the video furturistic and a new look for Danity Kane, also mentioning that if you visit her page on iamonmtv.com, you can see some of the look from the video. I'm guessing it's this one, since that's the most recently posted picture.
Songwriter Mary Brown commented on our entry about Day 26's album being pushed back.
In a Bad Boy Blog exclusive, she mentions a song she wrote for Danity Kane called "Bad Girl" which will feature Missy Elliott. You may remember from the Danity Kane and Day 26 conference call that the girls had been playing guest appearances close to the vest. So, Missy is the first one that we've heard.
Missy Elliott, Diddy and Bad Boy go way back, of course, with Diddy helping her in the early stages of her career. Missy also had a large influence over Total's second album, "Kima, Keisha & Pam," producing and appearing on the album's lead single, "Trippin'".
Danity Kane will be having a live chat on their MySpace page at 11:00 PM ET, after Monday's episode of Making the Band 4.
Here is the cover for Danity Kane's sophomore effort, "Welcome to the Dollhouse".
I think this is a really nice cover and really, I like everything about it, except when you get to the faces of everyone but D. Woods. They all have kind of odd looks to me, but especially Shannon and Dawn stick out to me because they both look like they want to eat you. They don't look like happy campers. Maybe that's what they were going for. But, a very nice cover.
