At the moment, he is hoping that his kids, their peers and the music critics will rally around Press Play. “I have a MySpace page and I get to talk directly to the fans on that,” Combs says. “And I use my website, diddy.com, to put my music out there. To me, it’s about that experience: that when you listen to music it affects you and evokes some emotion.” With a concert tour slated for 2007 and competition from his own rappers, fan support will be more important than ever. The future looks clear, though. “The people I have played it for have been pleasantly surprised,” he says confidently. “In order to be successful with this album, I knew I would have to surprise people.”
