Kevin Barnes of the band Of Montreal spoke to Tom Breihan of Pitchfork about the creation of "Make the Bus," a song from Janelle Monae's "The ArchAndroid," which featured the group.

Pitchfork: The song that you've got on the Janelle Monáe album is really interesting; it's basically an of Montreal song with her singing on it, rather than with you guys playing on her song. It's interesting how it fits into the fabric of that album, and also how it stands out from it. Whose idea was it to put your song on her album?

KB: I guess it just happened organically. I can't really remember a conversation or anything. I think I was just sending them songs. After I met Janelle and [collaborators] Chuck Lightning and Nate Wonder and everybody from the Wondaland Arts Society, it was almost like this romance began. I still feel that excitement. Like, we're in the honeymoon period. It was just super exciting to know each other and to collaborate together, so I can't even really remember how it came about. It just happened organically and now it's there. I haven't really thought about it.

He also revealed that Janelle Monae would be featured on the band's initial "False Priest" tour. "False Priest" is the name of their upcoming album, which will also feature an appearance from Monae.

As I reported earlier this month, Janelle Monae was honored at 23rd annual ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Music Awards on Saturday Night. She was given the Vanguard Award, which "recognizes the impact of musical genres that help shape the future of American music." Past honorees have included The Killers, Santigold, Sara Bareilles, The All-American Rejects, The Strokes, and the Beastie Boys.

According to a press release, the award was presented to her by Big Boi. He referred to her as "high funktress," according to MTV News, who says that Monae accepted the award on behalf of the Wondaland Arts Society.

It's just one person's opinion, but former "American Idol" winner Jordin Sparks told Hollywood Life that Diddy should replace the departing Simon Cowell on "American Idol."

“As far as personality goes, he says what’s on his mind. Simon didn’t want to hurt people’s feelings – it just came off that way,” Idol’s season six winner told HollywoodLife.com exclusively during a phone call June 22. “He’s the best fit! He was great on Making the Band, he’s a producer and he’s been in the industry for a long time. I think he’d probably be the best fit.”

She did say that he'd need to swear less, however, or they'd have to bleep him out "all the time."

In May, Diddy expressed his interest in the post and just last week said that he'd be willing to take a 5% pay cut from what Cowell now receives.
