I dont really understand anything about this music industry, but can you explain to me why a person would make songs available for free download if it's going to be put on an album that they want people to buy??

Out of the singles that they put out (I know they would be on album) and Shades/Strobe lights/Looking For Love (being leaked) & Yesterday (which is Curse on youtbe Ive had for a while now not in its full completion)& I have Ass On The Floor, a person would think that Diddy or DM would choose other songs out of the 1,000 they recorded or added a few more.

Im just lost, I feel cheated partially my fault for listening to leaked songs, and theirs for knowing songs leaked and not picking different ones. What's up with all the features?? That's what really ticked me off. Just yesterday I was feeling bad for Ciara fans/stans now I feel bad for myself.

Im still getting my deluxe copy & I really hope the second cd surprises me whatever that may be. *please excuse the rant it may not make any sense!*

There are some different lines of thinking. Artists and labels have always given some music away in the form of radio, etc. Of course, this is a little different. But, Kanye West is a popular example right now. His recent album had 13 non-interlude tracks (including the iTunes bonus track. 4 of them had been released as part of his GOOD Fridays, where he releases a song every week. Another 2 of them were singles, "Power" and "Runaway" released before the album. So, realistically, 6 of the 13 records were released legitimately before the album came out.

Looking at the track listing (http://www.badboyblog.com/i...), you have 16 songs (if we include the Intro). 1 has been released for free, 4 more have been released has singles and 2 more have been released to DJs. So, that is 7 out of 16 records. 2 more have leaked in unfinished form, as well.

The hope, to some extent, is that fans will appreciate being given music and come out and support the album. i.e. if they like the artist, they will support the artist. That is what a lot of people are predicting for the music industry.

I have a feeling there will be some extras for the deluxe edition, as well.

I'm not saying that the industry is ran on that, I am just talking about where the music industry is at/where a lot of people see it going.

This is due, in large part, to the large number of leaks and illegal downloading.

There are also segments of people who don't illegally download stuff, like myself. And there are people who have no concept for it at all, and don't buy music online even or all that much.

The idea of a majority of an album being never before heard material might, might be something of the past. If not, it is going to take a serious legal crack down to put it back to that place. I don't know if that will happen.

What sold records "back in the day" (pre-massive illegal downloading) was different stuff, much of which is still applicable now (just possibly in lower doses). New material, singles, people liking you/wanting to support you (i.e. real fans), good reviews, etc.

General promotion aside, that is.

With Kanye's album, it was interesting because all of the songs I liked, besides one, were things he put out for free or the two singles. So, does that make it a bad album? I decided no, I decided it was still a great album, even if most of the material I liked, I legally had before the album came out.
