11/19: Elliott Wilson: Nicki Minaj's "Pink Friday" Album Credits Confirm Diddy and James Cruz as Management
In April,
Billboard reported that Diddy and James Cruz would take on a management role with both Rick Ross and Nicki Minaj.
Following that,
Diddy came out and said he could confirm nothing. But, he went further than that, referring to Billboard's report as "rumors," and painting the author of it, and everyone who subsequently discussed it, as as a busybody.
Just nine days later,
Diddy confirmed that he had taken on a brand management role in Ross' career.
When I opened Rick Ross' "Teflon Don" album and saw that Diddy was credited as "management," a thought flashed through my mind: this is how we'll "officially" find out about Diddy's management deal with Nicki Minaj. The credits for her album.
Sure enough,
Rap Radar's Elliott Wilson tweeted that the credits for Nicki Minaj's "Pink Friday" include this: "Mgmt: Sean "Diddy" Combs and James Cruz."
So, there you have it. Finally, officially confirmed. It's unclear as to why that had to be so hard. I don't know why Billboard's integrity had to be put in a negative light or those interested in the story had to be spoken down to. That said, congrats to Diddy and Cruz for landing such a high profile client.
