07/20: Janelle Monae on Concept Albums
Janelle Monae spoke with Kev Geoghegan of the BBC News about concept albums.
A debut album with such an esoteric concept sounds like a risky move for an emerging artist but the self-assured Monae insists she never set out to make life difficult.
"I just had a very important story to tell," she explains.
"I believe the story of Cindi Mayweather and the story of the ArchAndroid was important enough for us to write music around and create a graphic novel and we'll be shooting a film."
