05/03: Video: D-Dot Talks About Making Mase's "Feel So Good," Betting Diddy That it Would be "Wack"
Check out
Hip-Hop Confessions, episode 5 features a round table of Deric "D-Dot" Angelettie, Sean C. and LV as they each confess something to host Skillz. Sean C. confesses that he didn't like "It's All About the Benjamins," when he first heard the beat.
But, the funny part is Angelettie's confession about, in his words, "one of my biggest records." He says that Diddy wanted him to take a short DJ Kool party cut and turn it into a full song. But, he didn't want to do it. He listened to it and told Diddy, "We not gonna win with this s***."
He also said that he and Diddy made a bet. If the song came out "wack," Diddy had to buy him a car. If it came out "hot," Angelettie had to give up his half of the publishing. This was before he made the record. It came out hot, but Dot says in the end Kool & the Gang took all of the publishing, anyway, due to the sample of "Hollywood Swinging," which served as the backbone of the record. He also notes that Mase came up with the "take hits from the '80s" anthem.
