The opening of the show is Diddy talking about what Bad Boy means to him, where he's come from and what he expects from those that are around him. There are also clips of former assistants talking about the job, the benefits and the requirements.
After the opening theme, various contestants talk about what the job could mean for them. We are now introduced to "Diddy's Front Line". Derek, his personal stylist for 2 years. Norma, Director of Special Events at Cipriani. She's the assistant that has lasted with him for the longest (7 years). Finally, we have Capricorn, his assistant for 4 years, who is now the Director of Marketing for Sean John. We now have the contestants:
Mike, 25, from New York, NY, a banker. He looks like he is chewing some gum and Capricorn asks him if he is. His eyes get big and he says no.
Stephanie, 21, who just graduated from college and has not had full time employment before. She's from Newport Beach, CA.
Rob, from Akron, OH, an Iraq War Veteran.
Andrew comes in, with white suspenders and a white hat. He says, like Diddy, he was born to dance and starts doing a little dance. He's a personal trainer from San Diego. He comes across really goofy as Capricorn looks at him in disbelief.
We get our first glimpse of Kim who asks them to bare with her for a couple of moments while she sets up. She starts to put together presentation board. We now get to see...
Boris, a.k.a. Can Do, comes in, in a t-shirt. He's a Legal Assistant from Sterling, VA.
Kendra, a Sales Assistant from Willingboro, NC says that "Kendra is a Knowledgeable Enthusiastic Noble Driven Reliable Achiever."
Deon begins with "I'm a son to my mother. I'm a child of God and a resident of this universe. A curator of energy, life and light. The moment is where it's at. The moment is where it's at. The moment is where it's at." OK. He's an Executive Assistant from Los Angeles.
Suzanne received a masters from Harvard, which she refers to as the "Bentley of academic." She also received a bachelors from Boston University and has worked as a Crime Reporter for the Detroit Free Press, a Special Assistant at the Philadelphia Police Department and a Managing Editor at the Public Agenda. Her bio screen gives us the idea that she's the most decorated of the bunch. She's from the Bronx.
We go back to Kim, who is still setting her presentation up while the Front Line eat's, plays with their phones and talks. And on to...
Laverne begins with "I'm so excited for the historic potential of someone like Mr. Combs saying to someone like me, a transgender woman, I'd like for you to come and work for me." She's a Hostess in New York, NY.
Georgette has worked production for a local news station, but is currently a mortgage broken in Miami. Her blouse was rather revealing, leaving Norma to ask "what's up with the cleavage?" after she leaves.
Back to Kim, who is still working on her presentation, saying that the Front Line can let her know when they are ready. To which, they say that they are ready. Next...
Brianna is an administrative assistant in Houston. They ask her what he typical day at work is like. And she actually tells them how the first thing she does is check her e-mail, check a couple of blogs, wait until her friend gets to work and then they walk to Starbucks. Then they plan for lunch. Derek tells her that she did a little bit of work that day. Brianna has an awkward grin on her face, perhaps indicating that she realizes the mistake she made.
Red, a club promoter from Boston, explains how he is an immigrant from Algeria. He moved to the U.S. when he was 12 years old. He says that he has to help his family and, hopefully, with this opportunity, he can do more than what he does now.
Finally, Kim is ready. She has a board showing Diddy in a king costume from a Holloween party a while back and then it has a plus sign, followed by the Bad Boy logo, indicating King + Kingdom. And then there is an equal sign. She says that he is a king, but there is something missing. This part is edited a bit, as the whole show is, of course, and we only quickly see a slide that says:
THE PROBLEM:
HOW DOES THIS GREAT KING
TAKE HIS EMPIRE TO THE NEXT LEVEL !
FROM AN OVER $300 MILLION
DOLLAR EMPIRE...
TO A $400 MILLION ...
$500 MILLION
HOW ABOUT
A BILLION DOLLAR EMPIRE !
She declares that what he needs is a "Po-Prah". The next slide has:
THE SOLUTION:
THE PERFECT
PERSONAL ASSISTANT
"PO-PRAH"
A BIG GIRL w/ BIG SKILLS
(some small, illegible text)
"PO-PRAH
She says, "I am Po-Prah". The show turns it into "Poprah" for her intro screen: she's an Entrepreneur from Atlanta, GA. To conclude her presentation, she throws a pair of dice on the table, saying "when you deal with these knuckleheads, you're gambling." Derek says that he presentation was "worth the wait".
Now, the contestants are sent into a room where they briefly meet and greet each other, before the Front Line enters along with Phil Robinson, Diddy's former manager, who asks "are y'all serious?" After they answer yes, he says it was rhetorical. He says he doesn't see anyone who he'd have meet Mr. Combs. "This is not a game. This is a serious business. Mr. Combs can change your life. And you're lucky to be in this room." He asks anyone who doesn't feel lucky to leave now. Of course, no one does! They'll be sent out to their first challenge soon and, if they lose, they'll see Mr. Robinson and then we'll figure out who goes home. You don't want to see a lot of him, he says. He leaves.
Capricorn welcomes them to Bad Boy and Norma adds that they have a long way to go before they even meet Mr. Combs, let alone work for him.
The Front Line remains and tells the group of 13 that they will be broken up into 2 teams of 6 each. Meaning, 1 person is going home right now, based on their interview. Each team member will be given a bag with a laptop and a BlackBerry. The teams will be named Downtown and Uptown.
Downtown: Mike, Stephanie, Kendra, Deon, Laverne and Boris.
Uptown: Rob, Georgette, Suzanne, Red and Brianna. Capricorn now talks to Kim, telling her that her presentation was strange and Andrew, who she says, more or less, came in acting like a clown. Who stays? Kim. Security escorts Andrew out as Capricorn tells him he's not ready to work for Bad Boy.
The first challenge will test their skills in multitasking. Each team has an identical list of 50 tasks with 24 hours to finish them. 2 people from each team will stay in the office to dispatch to the other team members. They are given special red phones and when they ring, it'll be a call from the Bad Boy office with something they must do. If they fail, 2 tasks they have finished will be erased.
Each team is given $2,000 to spend. Downtown seems to working together fine from the start. In the Uptown team, Kim is bossing people around and yelling at people, turning the rest of the team off. Some quick tasks are listed:
Downtown task: Videotape a cheer for Diddy.com. Done.
Downtown task: Get a longboard for Diddy. Done.
Uptown task: Make a fresh fruit salad for Diddy. It doesn't say if they did this or not as we are interrupted by a sequence of everyone stressing out over Kim.
Uptown task: Have people spell out love for Diddy's Valentine's Day card. Done.
Uptown task: Record someone doing a beatboxing sample. Done.
Downtown is leading, 9-3, right now, according to a leaderboard shown on screen. (We aren't being shown all of the tasks).
Downtown task: Go to Daddy's House and take a food order for everyone in the studio. But, after they take the orders, the red phone rings for them. Mr. Combs wants his car washed now. They break away to take care of that. Laverne isn't happy with Mike, who seems to be taking a vocal leadership role that is getting on her nerves.
Uptown gets the same red call, asking them to clean the interior and exterior of the car. Kim starts to say that she thinks they should skip the task so as to not lose their focus. Brianna disagrees and Kim's verbal goading leads to Brianna biting back and they go back and forth while Rob asks if they can just get some direction.
Kim calls Brianna "ignorant and ghetto." Uptown does make it to the car and starts working on it. Downtown is working on a separate car and they are told they need to restock the car with gum, mints, Ciroc, etc.
Downtown: Organize the Sean John showroom. Deon is having a tough time and Stephanie and Kendra aren't helping matters by being more than a little rude.
Forward to the next morning and everyone is tired. Another red phone task for Uptown: the Sean John store needs help with mannequins. Red (at the store) and Suzanne (at the office) have a contentious call when she asks him to buy a few pairs of underwear. Red's the cause as he's rude.
Uptown's Georgette is saying that her feet hurt, she's tired and she wants to switch roles and stay in the office. Uh oh. Kim isn't having it as she doesn't want to leave the office, apparently. But, she ends up going out, with Red, and he doesn't seem to know where he's going.
Tasks are flashing by fast and furious now as the teams work to complete them with time running out. They all get back to the office and Rob sounds optimistic as they consider what they have accomplished. Both teams are now taking a tally of what has been finished, what cash remains and what receipts they have. Diddy's Front Line comes in, all of a sudden, and tells them time is up and they need to be in their chairs.
Totals: Downtown completed 33 tasks. But, they failed to answer the red phone task and their total now comes down to 31. Uptown completed the red phone task, but only finished with 31 tasks total. It's a tie. So, it'll come down to a tiebreaker.
One team came up short on receipts by nearly $170. That's the Uptown team and that's the tiebreaker. So, Downtown wins. The watches that Downtown picked up are actually gifts for them. The watches are each worth $1,400. One of the Uptown team will go home. The Uptown team will discuss it over night and come to a decision as far as who they feel should leave. But, for now, everyone gets to celebrate, "Bad Boy style". Why does everyone get to celebrate? Maybe the losing team should sleep in the office?
Next, we see them head to an awesome apartment, as they toast with mini Ciroc bottles. Kim assembles the team as she wants to have a discussion about who should go. Again, her personality becomes an issue. Rob just laughs. Kim says that someone will leave, but it "better not be me." Suzanne accuses her of trying to cover her own backside.
The Uptown team now goes to the office and Diddy's Front Line asks Georgette what the problem was. She says poor communication and yelling. Who was yelling, Capricorn asks? Kim, she says. Kim now unloads on all of them, outlining mistakes they made. But, really... the way she's placing blame is an issue in itself. Capricorn observes that Kim is not letting anyone get a word in edgewise. People perk up now and get involved in the yelling.
Now, the members of the team vote. All of them say Kim except for Kim, who says Georgette. Capricorn tells Kim that it's unanimous, but there is a twist: Kim has the power to take someone with them and they both will face the judgements to see who stays and who goes. She picks Georgette.
They will each get a chance to plead their case. We now meet the Inner Circle of Trust. This 3 person team is comprised is Capricorn, Phil Robinson and Kevin Liles from Atlantic.
Kim tells them that she can step up to the plate as an entrepreneur and as someone who has been on her own for a long time, as her parents died when she was a child and she put herself through college. She says that Georgette doesn't understand business. She says the method doesn't matter, just the results. For a second time, she says that she's used to working her professionals, not amateurs. Beyond her, Rob sits with his mouth open. Robinson stops her and asks how the team is going to support her if she keeps calling them amateurs. She criticizes Georgette for saying that her feet hurt.
Georgette says it's hard to focus with someone treating you like a child. She lodges a couple of criticisms of Kim, on top of that.
The Inner Circle sends them out and discusses the candidates. Capricorn says that Kim is bossy, but she is also a gogetter. Georgette worked well with the team, Liles says. Liles also says it's like Kim is the queen and the rest of them are bums, in her own eyes. Liles asks if they are looking for the best team player or the assistant?
The team is brought back in. Liles tells them to take it as a lesson learned. Robinson calls in security and he tells Kim that she can't want to be the leader and not take care of the team. He tells Georgette that you have to be willing to get down and dirty with it. Georgette is the one sent off.
Liles tells Kim to tone it down. Rob says, in confessional, "oh, hell no!" Kim, who definitely has acted differently in front of the bosses, tearfully thanks them for the second chance. Then, we see Kim, in confessional, laugh and say "the b**** is out of here!" She laughs maniacally before claiming that "I'm good." I don't see her winning this competition.
We see clips from later this season: Diddy brings the contestants to his house to ask them a question: are they ready to make history? We see them sent to Paris and Hollywood (for the unveiling of Diddy's star). We see them running through different trials and tribulations. Kim tearfully laments about someone betraying her. Diddy concludes it by saying that if you want to work for him, you have to want to be great, because he accepts nothing less.
Next episode: team members are awakened in the middle of the night and dropped in the woods. They struggle. "If you can't see the forest through the trees, you need to chop those motherf****** down," Diddy says.
