Diddy is set to receive his prestigious “star” on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame tomorrow at 11:30 am. The stars will turn out to help Diddy celebrate this tremendous honor, in recognition of his multi-faceted career in the entertainment business. In light of this huge feat,
Variety decided to do 7 different stories on the man they call Diddy. Here’s a little recap of them.
The first story, titled
“Combs is the Leader of the Brand” takes a small look at Diddy’s career. As a young boy, he lied about his age in order to work a paper route making about $600 a week. It’s that kind of drive that has lead him into grossing just about $525 million annually with music, fragrance and fashion empire.
Diddy’s star is well deserved and is a great honor.
Contrary to popular belief, Diddy is very serious about his new acting career, as he spoke about this in
“Combs Gets the Acting Bug”. He hired the same acting coach that helped the likes of Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman. Although very skeptical at first, Susan Batson accepted his offer. Diddy made a good first impression on her, stating, "Don't stay if I can't do this. If I don't do well, I can take it, just tell me. Because it's my intention to try to make history, to really, really contribute." Realizing his talent and effort, she helped to prepare him for his role in “A Raisin in the Sun” - both the Broadway and television versions. Diddy has decided to take on his acting career full speed, delegating his other duties to his employees. But Diddy’s music fans should not worry, "You'll still get an album outta me," says Diddy.
Next,
“Combs Brand Rolls the Merchandise” talks about the many business ventures that he’s a part of. He launched his Sean John brand back in 1998, which has now transitioned into the third-largest menswear company, after Polo and Tommy Hilfiger. Diddy also teamed up with Estee Lauder for his fragrance “Unforgivable” earning about $80 million in 2006. No matter what business venture, Diddy is completely hands on with every aspect of his products. MTV’s “If I Were King” showed Sean John’s return to New York City’s fashion week and the blood, sweat and tears that went into the show.
I’m sure by now you all know that Ciroc is the vodka of the New Year, so this article titled
“Sean Combs Enters Booze Business” discusses his partnership with Diageo to promote Ciroc vodka. Diddy could profit up to $100 million from this multiyear deal. I personally love the commericals for the beverage and I think that Diddy is definitely the man for the job. There are certain things Combs isn't going to do, however, says Jeff Tweedy, executive VP of brand development and licensing for Sean John. "It all comes down to whether it's part of his lifestyle," he says. "If it is, it's easier for him to sell it. If Puffy wasn't a drinker, it wouldn't make sense for him to sell vodka."
So there will be no doubt that the next time you see Diddy, doing his trademark dances with a glass in his hand, he’s promoting Ciroc.
The article
“Bad Boy Makes History” sheds some light on the talent that Diddy has worked with over the years. From The Notorious B.I.G. to groups like Total and 112, Diddy left his mark in the 90’s with his trademark sound, style and charisma. This article basically talks about Diddy’s rise from being an intern at Uptown Records, to owning one of the most successful labels in hip-hop history. In a section of the interview, Diddy was criticized for his sampling technique in some of his hit records.
For all the new Bad Boy Records fans, the next article
“Combs ‘Band’ mates Top Charts” will be a more familiar territory. If you remember the first season of “Making the Band” created the group “O-Town”, after seeing the success of the show, Diddy decided to take part in the hit series. “Making the Band 2” did not go as planned, with the creation of the Hip-Hop group “Da Band”. After constant battles and conflict, Diddy decided that “Da Band” was dismantled, and they parted ways. Hoping for more success, he set out to find an all-girl and all-boy band for the seasons to come, successfully bringing about Danity Kane and Day26.
Lastly,
“Sean Combs Earns Platinum, Gold” basically lists all of the artists that Diddy has been hands on with. From Mary J. Blige to Mase, this article recaps each artists’ success and reminds us how much of a mastermind Diddy is.
This articles were compelling and filled with great information. With all of the success that Diddy has, I expect him to fully soak it up at tomorrow’s ceremony, as he should. This honor is well deserved and should be celebrated. Congratulations Diddy, we know you can’t stop and won’t stop.
