The show opens with Diddy welcoming you back, pumped for a new season. After a quick recap of last season, he says that this season, you'll be watching the Making the Band 4 guys, Donnie and Danity Kane making their albums. "This is like super Making the Band. This is like Making the Band on steroids."
The first thing we see is an airport with the guys arriving and greeting each other. They're back in New York City. We see Donnie arriving separately, walking the streets of New York. The band guys arrive at the place where they'll be staying. They walk into one room and notice that there are only four beds. One of them says that someone is kicking kicked out. But, then they discover two other beds. Donnie arrives and all six guys are in the house. The guys are staying at
Flatotel.
A limo rolls up and out comes Danity Kane. They all talk about the success and great experiences that they've had over the last year, including their platinum selling album and tours. We see Dawn, Aundrea and Shannon talking in a room... we don't know where that room is. (We later find out that it is at the
Le Parker Meridien). They're talking about where they want the album to go. Next, we seem them walking down the streets in the evening for a meeting at Bad Boy with Diddy. And then we see the guys walking to the offices as well.
Diddy is meeting with the dream team (Conrad Dimanche, Ankh Ra, Michael Bivins, Harve Pierre, Slam Lawrence) saying how he wants this to be a big year and part of his plan is to flood the market. He wants these to be platinum albums. The Making the Band 4 guys are in a room waiting and the elevator opens and Danity Kane comes out.
Aubrey's trying to get people to talk to her and, really, she keeps talking and it comes across as pretty annoying to me. She makes up a story about Donnie doing something in Anaheim. She asks Donnie if he has a girlfriend... she keeps trying to get them to talk. A lady steps off the elevator and says that Mr. Combs will see the Making the Band 4 guys now. The guys come in his office and greet Diddy and the dream team. He has everybody take off their hats to see what's going on (with their hair) and they laugh. He says that they're all alright.
He wants the guys to hit the town and "tear New York up" and have a good time this weekend. There's a lot of hard work ahead of them, but they should celebrate their success and then Tuesday they're going to get real busy, make a multi platinum album and take over the world if they're with it. And, of course, they are.
Aubrey, in confessional, says she has a crush on Donnie. And she keeps playing around with him. Finally, the administrative assistant type lady steps off the elevator again and tells Donnie that Diddy is ready to see him. Diddy tells him that they're doing the album at the same time that they're doing the band's album. He tells him that they're going to take their time and do it right.
Danity Kane heads into his office next. They greet and have a seat. He asks them what they did during their off time. They worked. He asks them if they have stuff they need to submit for their album? They say yes and he says they need to listen to that right away. They tell him that they're ready to go. And, just as with the guys, he tells them to go enjoy their weekend and he'll see them back on Tuesday. He lets four of the girls leave, but tells Aubrey to stay. He also has the dream team leave.
Diddy tells Aubrey that there's a chance that she could be holding back the group with her actions and her not knowing how serious these things are. And he's not going to let her mess (not the word he used) with his money. He talks about the stuff that he sees in the press and how it doesn't help the group. She says she can't control what they write about her and talks about how the United Nations has asked her to do something and how she has two charities, but the press doesn't focus on it. He says he understands, but basically... she could be doing better. From what I've seen, that does seem to be the case. He tells her that she was one of the first people that he put in the group and that he judges her on a higher scale. He's cool having a problem child, but it can't be her this album. She needs to be a leader and step up and not be the one getting everybody in trouble.
She says that her relationship with Puff is a difficult one but, at the end of it, she says that this is the job she chose and this is her dream and no one is going to take it away from her.
The guys are headed out for a "little date with Danity Kane". A black stretch Escalade limo picks them up. Puff sent it for them. They're going to go club hopping. It picks up the girls next and, as they travel to the club, the limo is very quiet inside. Shannon calls it like the 8th grade dance, extremely awkward. The girls are all texting on their phones and Donnie says that they should be called "Danity Phones". And then Aubrey says how she thinks it's sad that there are five girls are phones when there are six guys in the car.
They arrive at the club and take some shots. But, Michael's not taking any shots. In confessional, he says he knows what it does to you and that's why he doesn't drink. He says this in a funnier manner than I can convey here. Once the bands are settled it, the awkwardness stops and they all talk and get to know each other and have fun. And they all mingle a bit and dance and all that.
The DJ plays "Exclusive (No Excuses)" and the guy's eat it up. He plays "Showstopper" and the girls do the same. Aubrey and Donnie are playing it very close and Michael notices. They leave the venue holding hands. They get in the limo and head to another club - 40/40, where they play some pool. On the way out of the limo, Aubrey falls down. She's fine, but it doesn't seem like she heeded Diddy's advice. Q and Dawn are also getting pretty cosy. Aubrey asks Q if he wants to marry Dawn and have her babies? And then he asks her if she wants to marry Donnie and have his babies and get child support and take his money? She says that, as far as she knows, he's the one with the platinum album (and the money).
D. Woods is hanging out with Robert. Will, Aundrea and Shannon (who is married) just sit and watch the rest - especially Aubrey and Donnie, with curiosity.
It's Tuesday now and everyone is headed to Daddy's House. All 11 people are in the same studio room, waiting for Diddy to arrive. He walks in and greets everyone. He tells them that, in case they haven't realized it yet, all three of them are working on albums at the same time. He tells them that Bad Boy has always been strong in numbers. He says that their strongest runs came when him, Mase and Biggie and Faith and 112 and Total were all working together. Their albums have to be done within the next five weeks. This is a challenge as usually it takes a year and a half. If the albums don't sound like they need to sound, they'll be calling out the weak links. The next couple of days, they'll be recording and then Diddy will assess them from there
Danity Kane is recording now. The first song is "Is Anybody Listening?" It's about the hard ships of life and if anybody else feel that way. The group talks about how they have grown and earned some respect. We now switch over to the guy's session. "Costar" is the first song we see them recording. It's written by Mario Winans, Mike Winans and Shay Winans and they are working with Mike Winans in the studio.
Q sneaks out of the guy's session and visits Dawn with the girls. Dawn finds out that he's 19 and he calls him the cradle that she can't touch.
We now see some of Donnie's session. His first track is "I Don't Care." He calls it cheesy in the best possible way. It's about a guy who was heartbroken over a girl and now he doesn't care any more. He's working with Battle Roy. He appears to do well with Battle Roy cheering him on.
The guys are having fun and liking their stuff until... Diddy shows up wearing a fur coat. Brian is in the booth when Diddy comes in and, as such, is on the spot. Michael's sitting on a coach with his legs up covered up by something and Diddy tells him to wake up. Though he wasn't sleeping... he was covered up with like a blanket or a jacket or something. Diddy tells them that they all need to be up and doing this stuff. Brians sings and Diddy tells him that he's yelling at her (the girl he's supposedly singing to). He sings again and Diddy says the same thing. And then he sings again, changing his tone and Diddy tells him to stop and come out of the booth.
Diddy rips into them, telling them to sing like they mean it. Not to let people see they are singing. He compares it to when you see an actor acting so badly that you can tell he's acting. Don't just sing, he tells them, sing like you have a personal connection to it. He tells them they have a couple days to get this all cleaned up. And that's where the episode ends.
Instead of a preview of the next episode, we see something of a modified trailer. We see more studio time, the guys and girls working out, DIddy telling someone that they are the weakest link, Aubrey confronting Donnie, the guys fighting, people having fun, Conrad Dimanche telling the girls that if the boss says that he doesn't want them to record a song, that's it - they don't record it.
