01/28: New Artist: Janelle Monae Signs with Bad Boy
Minutes after I posted my
entry on the rumor that Janelle Monae had signed with Bad Boy, a representative responded to my request for comment with a simple yes.
This is an interesting signing for the label as Ms. Monae (
official website) represents a sound that they have not really explored. As I mentioned in the previous entry, she is,
according to Wikipedia a "futuristic rock singer". She released an EP album, "Metropolis Suite I of IV: The Chase", the first of a planned four album series. She appeared on both the Big Boi compilation,
Got Purp? Vol. II and the
soundtrack to Idlewild.
