Back in May, Donnie Klang revealed that he was no longer signed to Bad Boy.
As I have done in other cases, I held back on taking Klang out of our coverage lineup, in attempt to verify the news and give Bad Boy an opportunity to comment publicly.
But, the news has continued to spread and Klang has spoken with the press and on Twitter about the split. Yesterday, a blog post was published on Global Grind where he spoke about what happened.
Given all of this, I feel as though it is safe to say that Donnie is no longer signed to Bad Boy. So, his coverage at Bad Boy Blog will now come to an end.
Donnie joined Bad Boy officially in August of 2007 and we interviewed him about a year later. His debut album, "Just a Rolling Stone" ( which I liked) debuted at 19 on The Billboard 200.
I wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors.
Earlier today, I mentioned the Billboard report on Donnie Klang's exit from Bad Boy. He said the following:
Klang said he learned a lot about "the business side of things, not just music," from Bad Boy and its CEO Sean "Diddy" Combs, but added that, "it's tough being on a label where the president of the label is also an artist."
On Twitter, he sought to clarify the statement.
"I just want to clarify," he wrote. "I did the interview with Billboard and expressed a ton of gratitude toward Puff and everything he has done for me."
Billboard reports on Donnie Klang's announcement that he is no longer signed to Bad Boy Records. Oddly, they refer to it as an "exclusive," even though Singersroom.com reported a couple of weeks ago.
Klang said he learned a lot about "the business side of things, not just music," from Bad Boy and its CEO Sean "Diddy" Combs, but added that, "it's tough being on a label where the president of the label is also an artist."
I can see how it is both a good thing to some and a bad thing to others. A lot of people who are now Donnie Klang fans wouldn't know who Donnie is if Diddy weren't as well know as he is (and the biggest reason he's well known is because he is an artist).

At the start of May, we reported that Donnie Klang would be releasing his new single, "Not Leavin Without U" later in the month.
Well, while we wait to hear more on his reported departure from Bad Boy, the track has been released. Now dubbed "Without You," it can be heard in our audio player.
Singersroom.com reports that Donnie Klang is no longer signed to Bad Boy and has signed a deal with 872 Entertainment, run by Tyrrell Bing of Tha Corna Boyz production team. The article says he'll be recording his upcoming second album with them and that he expects to sign a deal with a major label when it comes time to release it.
I confirmed the details of this story with Klang. Requests for comment sent to representatives at Bad Boy Records and Atlantic Records were not immediately returned.
Thanks secretcharms_ for the tip.
On Twitter, Donnie Klang mentioned that his new single, "Not Leavin Without U" would be coming out in May.
Thanks Curtis for the tip.
Krissy Ward of Full Blast Magazine has an interview with Donnie Klang. He says that his second album, "Welcome to Heartbreak," "should be coming out sometime in May," but that he doesn't "actually have a release date."
On Twitter, Donnie Klang announced that he's got three projects in the pipeline: a mixtape, his next album and a 5 song all-acoustic EP titled "Story of My Life." No release dates have been announced.
Carma Dee has a video interview with Donnie Klang. Check it out below. The most interesting thing to me was that Donnie said that he was trying to take more of the music creation end of the album process (recording, writing, producing) on himself, in order to save the budget for some featured artists.
"We've been looking at Rihanna, Keri Hilson, Jadakiss," he said. "I've met a lot of great people doing this club stuff. Busta Rhymes, I met. And I've just been getting everybody's contact information. So, we're going to have some great features, which should help with radio and the album is very crazy, definitely look out for it."
Emerging Artist USA magazine has an interview with Donnie Klang, who is featured on the cover. Donnie talks about his first album, working with Diddy, Michael Jackson and more.
